I take it that it's exceeded your expectations?

I put series in quotes because they're all spiritual successors more than direct sequels. They're all the work of the same director and there are minor threads connecting them to one-another, but you needn't play the earlier releases unless you're a purist like me. I just got my reproduction cart of Terranigma about 3 weeks ago, so it's in the backlog. I still need to pick up a copy of Soul Blazer, but that game is quite cheap to this day so I'll grab one on eBay when I'm ready to start on the Soul Blazer series.

Now for a progress update (nothing on Lunar, sorry! FF7R came out!)

       60% Final Fantasy VII Remake

I've heard that the game has 18 Chapters, I just finished Chapter 10 last night.
Holy crap, I didn't know the guy who worked on them was that prolific...well, maybe that isn't the right word but I recall that Granstream Saga didn't have much fanfare so I wouldn't have thought that the people who worked on that didn't really move on to bigger things after that. Is the gameplay more or less similar? I should look into that.

I'm sorry to say that I got lazy with Lunar this week. Just bogged down with work, not to mention Doom Eternal kind of caught my attention again. However, I certainly plan on picking up this weekend to play some more. I got to the part where that one son of a bitch ripped us off with the dragon diamond. I tried to go into the sewers but the monsters down there are fucking tough. I didn't give Ramus any new shit. Maybe I should've?

Anywho, I'm curious to hear what you're thoughts on FF7Remake is. I've heard a lot of people are mixed on it and that apparently some stupid changes were made. Then again, I never played FF7 so I wouldn't know so I'd be curious to see your perspective on the matter.

Errrr...spoke too soon. It's gone up 5x in price from a few years ago. Damn. Might need to pick up a reproduction cart for this one.

In many ways, yes. In some ways ABSOLUTELY NOT. Edit: Since I posted this 2 days ago I already have some different thoughts. I've watched a lot of videos on the story of FF7R and you could say that I'm now optimistically intrigued. Knowing Squeenix, they could absolutely flub this up, but the groundwork for some really cool stuff is in place that I didn't grasp on a first playthrough.

Just got through the sewers and made my way into the Cave of Trials. The sewers did take me a while, mainly because I wanted to get Alex and crew up to level 16. The sewers are balanced for a level 14 team, I think. You can get some stuff for Ramus in town, the best being a bow (give one to Luna as well). Past level 9 i think Ramus stops getting stat increases because he is just about to leave your party for good. when yu finish the sewers, he's gone so it's up to you if you wantto outfit him a bit better. I found that he was still useless because his HP starts getting outclassed by Alex & Luna very quickly and his max hits even with the best bow were like 22-23 versus Alex's 38's. Just let me know when you want me to stop sharing specifics. I don't know how far you got with your brother back in the day and I would hate to spoil anything for you if I'm ahead of your progress. I'm gonna play another hour or so tonight. If I get too far ahead then I will double-back to Octopath Traveler and Wild ARMs until you catch up.

Edit: played another hour or two of Lunar last night, updated my progress to 25%

Finally got around to picking up Lunar again. I got distracted playing Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. I didn't get superfar but I at least got the rat bastard that stole my diamond. I ended up giving ramus a fire staff since it made some of the fights go by quicker. I did the trials which I almost beat but got killed but that huge mushroom boss dude. I discovered that I forgot to save before doing the trial so I decided to give up for the night. My last save isn't far. I saved just before I left town with Nash so I'm not that far behind. I'm hoping to play some more tomorrow night.

Cool. I'm just one town & dungeon ahead then. I finished the story stuff in Vane (the floating city you go to after the Cave of Trials) and then I went through the Nanza Barrier to the West to arrive in the fishing village Lann. I saved as soon as my screen loaded in Lann which I should mention is now officially the furthest I've ever gotten into the game so from here on out I'm playing blind.
In the Cave of Trials are you talking to the priest guys? They each give your party a one-time full heal (including MP). You'll be fine with the mushroom guy if you make Alex use Vigor and Luna use Cascade Song on him in the first round, then do NOTHING but Sword Dance & heal.

Played a bunch more, got through Lann and its associated dungeon...then a bunch of story stuff happens in Vane again and I'm one dungeon beyond the point where the main antagonist is revealed. I'm gonna update my progress to 40% but I have no clue if that's correct. I'm just looking at walkthroughs and trying to gauge progress by how far down i've scrolled. Late-game dungeons are usually pretty slow so I tend to mess up on these progress bars because the final dungeon or two can often account for 10% of total playtime (I'm looking at YOU Trails of Cold Steel I & II).

Not sure if you're still considering the 'Tales of' series but I just remembered this gem:

That's from Tales of Xillia, which was very good but it wasn't my absolute favorite. If Abyss and Symphonia give you any trouble on emulators then you could grab a copy of the most recent Tales game at some point: Tales of Berseria. It's the butt-rock king of the Tales series, and I get the feeling that you might actually like the vibe this one has as opposed to the others that take themselves a bit more seriously. It has a sort of un-apologetic "FUCK YEAH ANIME" feel:

....basically I just wanted to talk about Tales. I know nobody asked.

Funny that you bring up Tales of Berseria because someone was talking about that online today. It was about the leaks pertaining to The Last of Us Part 2 and lamenting how japanese female protaginists were superior to western ones and used the lead in Berseria as an example.

I wont lie, there's something oddly comical about the cat looking thing saying "YOU KNOW SO MANY COOL THINGS!". That's another game to the list. I'll probably do a coin flip between Abyss and Symphonia to start on my Tales Of journey somewhere down the road. Also, you seen the trailer for Tales of Arise?

I wont lie, it looks pretty damn sick. It was supposed to come out this year but it's been quiet on that front. Haven't heard anything about since Tokyo Gameshow last year.

I'm embarassed to say that I've still haven't gotten around to Lunar. I got too preocupied with Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 (Awesome game BTW. Not as good as the later Jedi Knight games but still rock solid) but rest assured that I will not give up on it! I'll probably on Saturday. I actually took your advice when fighting that big shroom thing and I ran out of mana for Alex to which then it was just poor Luna who inevitably bit the dust. I'm trying to look at some guides to see of a better way to approach this thing, if there is any. I do have to mention that one of the guys wandering around lost in the caves was talking like Austin Powers. I have a sinking feeling that wasn't in the original Japanese script.

Yeah, I'm aware of Tales of Arise but since it's a spiritual Successor to Tales of Zestiria i'm a bit wary and I think it's the same team. That one was quite a dud and I need to wait for Arise to come out and see some reviews before I jump in on it. My recommendations remain Symphonia, Abyss, and Berseria.

As for Lunar...I haven't been able to stop myself yet. I just finished the
    Red Dragon's trial
and I'll be getting closer to the end of Disc 1 tonight.

12 days since my last update!
Finished Disc 1 of Lunar last night and then played a bit into the Frontier portion of the game. As I understand things, Disc 2 is much shorter than Disc 1 but that remains to be seen.

Yep, Disc 2 is much shorter. I'm in the final dungeon.
