Even though I live a couple of time zones away, I follow the Boston/New England teams pretty faithfully since I grew up in New England.

To be fair, I suffered through some pretty rough patches in the 1990s where the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics did nothing but disappoint. I seriously think the highlight of the Bruins '99-2000 season was when Hall of Fame defenseman Ray Bourque was traded to Colorado and he closed out his career winning his first Stanley Cup there instead of Boston. On the other hand, it's nice to reminisce about Boston championships from a few short years ago (the Red Sox in 2013, Bruins in 2011 and Celtics in 2008) instead of decades before I was born.

Now- to the outside observer, Boston sports fans tend to be the most abrasive and obnoxious out there, but I'd also argue they're the most passionate and knowledgeable. I've seen ballparks in cities like Minneapolis, San Francisco and Baltimore where half the capacity crowd was Boston fans so they could see the Red Sox as the visiting team (myself among the gate-crashers).

I'd say baseball is my favorite spectator sport (plus the only sport I seemed to have any acumen playing when I was growing up) and if the opportunity presents itself, I'm perfectly happy taking a road trip through the backroads of the USA catching some minor-league games.

I think the Boston sport fan thing is just a stereotype. If they're the most abrasive and obnoxious, then my mom's family isn't from Florida after all. But Boston teams can be pretty great! Even though my favorites tend to be New York teams, I do like the Red Sox plenty. And I did root for the Patriots recently too...But I'm not as big on sports, so I probably wouldn't travel very far to see a game. Though I at least know where the MetLife Stadium is from my house [also known as the New Meadowlands Stadium, being partly owned by the NY Giants and partially by the NY Jets]. But even that's mostly because I pass it a lot visiting a friend the few times I visit him...xD

I prefer basketball honestly. For a while I went to college games constantly with help from a friend whose mom happened to be a statistician for them. o.o; I only really 'get' the rules of basketball compared to other sports. Because I'm simple and played on a team in middle school.

It's a stereotype with some basis in reality...altho if anyone else's city won nine different championships since 2001, they'd probably pretty obnoxious about it, too.

Still, for some reason it pleases me when I hear fans of visiting teams lavish praise on Fenway Park and how they had such a good time there or in the city of Boston.
