Nope. Now that it's been a few days, I figured I'd let the cat out of the bag...Zem and I have finally met in person! It's something that we've been talking about and planning for awhile and Zem was kind enough to fly up here to Duluth to spend the weekend with me along with a few buddies of mine (who are regulars on our Friday night streams) in what is possibly the first Outlaw Star Nexus IRL get together! Before I begin, Zem took quite a bit of pics. Great quality ones even. The only problem is the Nexus doesn't seem to like these as I keep getting an error everytime I tried to upload it. If Zem is cool with it, I can probably throw up the link he gave me for you fellas to see.

The festivities began on Friday evening and it kicked off how every online meetup ought to begin; with the police. There was something going down at my apartment that involved a few squad cars just as Zem arrived. There was an ambulance too so I assumed that there was just some medical problem involving one of the tenants that got serious (I recall something similar happening when I got home from my Birthday celebration a few months back.) Thankfully, it didn't hinder me and my friend from getting into Zem's rental and we headed off to his hotel room to drop the cooler off and to find out that he came bearing gifts! He had several things on him, one of which was Amish bologna, and holy shit it was delicious and this is coming from someone who doesn't care for bologna usually. In fact, it was so tasty that we pretty much devoured the whole package in an instant. He also had Grandma Utz's Kettle Style Potato chips, Tastycakes peanut butter KandyKakes (The official treat of Mortal Kombat) and Amish Pretzels. He also brought A-Treat Black Cherry soda. I still have a bottle of that in my fridge right now. Haven't tried it but my friend did and he gave his seal of approval. Once the gifts were given, we kicked the night off by going over the bridge to Superior, WI to an old Superior institution.

    ...So THIS IS SUPERIOR

Our first stop was The Anchor. It's one of the big local establishments that Superior is known for. So much so that it was actually featured on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It's a divey, blue collar place that serves some wonderful, freshly cooked burgers and some good beer as well. Once we filled our bellys of burgers, fries and booze, we headed off to a bar called Top Hat to where we had a few drinks and shot the shit. After that, we headed back to Zem's hotel room to do a special stream with our very own Madmanmark! We caught a few episodes of High School of The Dead and Watamote to top off the evening.

The next day, it was time for some guns!

We headed off to our local gun range called Dead on Arms to where we gave Zem a tour of the place and fired some gats. We all shared two guns. One of which was the AK-47, which is rather shameful of us since it's the gun of choice for terrorists and commies. We did redeem ourselves by firing an old WWII classic; The Thompson SMG! Now this was a fun one to shoot. It's surprisingly easy to control and really smooth to shoot! The only downside was is the mag can sometimes get stuck when you try to remove it from the gun. You're not going to be doing any slick-John Wick style tactical reloads with this thing, that's for sure. Speaking of which, I figured I celebrate our get together by purchasing a new gun called the H&K P30L that Zem and I have dubbed the official gun of the Outlaw Star Nexus boards as we (Well, I felt anyway) that it's a handgun worthy of Gene Starwind himself! I used part of my stimulus check to purchase it which I was going to save for a trip to Japan but you know what, it's gonna be awhile before Japan opens it's doors again so I figured "What the hell" and got the gun.

We then proceeded to what was quite possibly the most chill part of the trip which was going on the nature trail. If you remember my post from a few years back, I posted pictures of it when I was going on a walk back on the 4th of July but Zem finally got to see it up close! We walked around, taking pics, talking about things on our mind and and all kinds of stuff. It was the perfect weather for it too since it was still kind of chilly so we didn't have to put up with mosquitos or anything like that. We then did a some bar hopping along with some supper at a Japanese place. We didn't get to as many bars as I'd like since we did go kind of late at the trail but we still got to most of the good spots, even treating Zem to some Ugly Betty's and proving to his friend once and for all that yes, there is such a thing as a Johnny Jump Up!

We finished the night at Zem's hotel room playing some Sega Saturn. Here I felt kind of bad for him because we didn't get through a lot since my friends went home and I started to feel tired at around the 2:30-3:00 am block (Perhaps this is a sign that I'm getting old?) Still, I managed to revisit Die Hard Arcade and even got to try out Guardian Heroes, a game that I always wanted to try which is...not exactly what I was hoping for. We did play this softcore FMV game where you take pics of models which was harder than I anticipated but we got some good japanese booty out of the deal so that was A-OK in my books.

Sunday was the day where we had to part ways but not before treating him to a neopolitan pizza place and introducing him to a great view of the lake up the north shore. It was over all too fast but it was still a fantastic time and I think that I can speak for Zem here when I say that it was great for him to finally meet me in the flesh and got treated to a fun-filled weekend and even making some Outlaw Star Nexus history! I'm sure Zem probably has some things he'd like to add so I'll let him when he gets the time. Hopefully, sometime in the future he'll come up again or, as one of my buddies suggested, we'll be seeing him on his home turf one of these days.

    I'm here with the assist!

I had a great time, my man! We've hung out online weekly for over a year now & recently with FFVIII & FFVII it's been...what...3 times per week? Definitely enough to warrant a trip & I'm glad I did! As you said, we're already in the planning stages of the Zemekis sequel. First Blood: Part 2, if you will.
    Final Firefight II
or if we're lucky it might even be as epic of a follow-up as Angel Links!

The only thing of note to add is that I was able to pick up local beer and souvenirs to bring home. My wife really likes the chocolate boats I bought. On the way home I arrived back a few hours late due to a thunderstorm over Philadelphia that caused my plane to circle the airport for an hour or two. I got home at 3:30am and had to start work at 8:00! Yuck.

It was over all too fast
That's just how these things go, I'm afraid. But I've always said that it's better to be left wanting more than waiting for the visit to be over!!!

But seriously dude, it was a fun time thanks for showing me around and coordinating with the Friday night crew. We even hosted our Friday night anime stream live from the hotel room so Madmanmark wouldn't be left out! I'm shocked that we were able to avoid dropping our combo despite the travel and alcohol. I look forward to our next meeting and I have OSN to thank for a fresh group of IRL friends. It's certainly something that I never expected back when I first installed the Forum app and made my first post while walking the Tokyo streets at night back in Summer 2018. Here's to another 20+ years of Outlaw Star & good friends!

Before anyone gets any bright ideas, I'll do it myself.

Fuckin' A, this is cool! I said in the past that one of the best things about running a forum is seeing the community side of it develop and how it brings people together. That being literal is something else and it looks like you had a good time.

Sorry to steal yer thunder, boys, but I'm that record's holder. I met with one of the earlier members of this community who was active in the Outlaw Star UK days.

Lloyd Skelton, or lloydssj4, or Gecko Infinite. He visited me in 2014 and we hung out for a day. If you're aware of the site's history (well, it is one of the first thing visitors see until they close the box) you may recall that he offed himself the same year we met.

I don't want to introduce gloom to two really positive posts. While it was a tragedy I ended up launching Outlaw Star Nexus the following year in his honour. We did pretty normal shit. Gaming, Futurama. Genuinely was a great guy though. At the risk of making light of something terrible I would say that OSN is a silver lining he would be proud of and it's totally awesome to see that members have met up in person once again.

To be honest I wouldn't think much of that if I was travelling in America.

As totally not a Sega fanboy the act of transporting a Saturn across the country for a few games is respectable. Shame it didn't get its deserved love, but understandable!

This was a great read and I'm glad you had lots of fun. I think I'll reply to Zem's post separately because the app is a pain in the ass with long posts.

I'm liking the photos Zemekis added. I'd definitely shop that shooting range photo in a cool way I have in mind if my computer wasn't out of action at the moment. Shucks.

I am certain that Starwind is either intentionally imitating Doomguy's grin and overall appearance or he's such a fan he has transcended into the one and only real-life Doomguy.

Somehow, Starwind had some recollection of that which is why he said 'possibly'. I don't know how he knew about your past meeting, maybe you mentioned it somewhere in the past? Or Starwind is a stalker.

Regardless, it was the first weekly gaming group/anime group meetup!

Knew it. You lucky sons of bitches! Shoulda recorded a video of that.
There are plenty of videos but there isn't a great way to post them here since I'm not putting them up on YouTube. I can send you some of the videos via Google Drive or Discord if you'd like. (I also don't want a bunch of videos of me using full-auto firearms floating around out there considering some of the people I work with)

Heh, I knew you'd appreciate that. While I may be younger, you and I did have a shared childhood experience of being Sega kids which is something we've spoken about in private numerous times. Sega is console master race. It was a shame that we didn't get to play more because I have a Phantom hard-modded Saturn & Action Replay for foreign games as well. I even bought a Saturn > HDMI converter and a stack of 20 games. I was up all night before my flight burning CDs, haha. There are only so many things you can do in a single weekend before you run out of time. We'll just have to play more next time!

You could upload it to YouTube as an unlisted video. But you have a point. If your coworkers somehow traced it maybe they'll think you're a postal risk or from everything you've written an "alt-right Trumper incel" who listens to Negative XP.
