RE: The Misadventures of a Mantis

Well, the birthday was decent. And I've extremely recently accomplished an all-nighter. I was meaning to sleep about four hours ago but I feel that gone past 6.00AM, is there really any benefit to going to sleep anyway? It's only going to screw with your body clock even more than the previous night. I figured I'd watch a few episodes of Outlaw Star and see if I can last it without falling asleep. Well, obviously, I won that battle. I can feel the tiredness creeping in however.

My main strategies to staying awake are drinking a lot of water (can't sleep if you need to pee a lot, huh?) and if very tired, playing some difficult FPS. However, today I was meant to finish my Outlaw Star 2 article. If I manage to do that during an all-dayer and make it pretty good then that's quite the accomplishment, especially given the whole problem of Japanese translations, some of which Google really isn't helping with. So I really can't be too confident about producing the article in time to meet my own personal deadline.

Urge to sleep is high, but I've gotta be strong. XD

RE: The Misadventures of a Mantis

Thanks. Well, I allowed myself a small nap, which was a big mistake because it turned into a little more than that. Fortunately, it was far fewer hours than I'd normally sleep for, which should even things out a little. I think I'm going to get some food and watch an episode of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (I did decide I'd watch until episode twenty before choosing whether I like it enough to continue) and then continuing my research. Indeed, there are some things you might find interesting.

Thanks to the help of Somasol, we were able to make a connection between the Sword of Wind and a place in the Toward Stars universe that is never actually mentioned in the anime, if memory serves. (And it bloody well should with the amount of times I've watched it.) I also have you to thank since I've been using your map as a reference. I've also created a more aesthetically-pleasing version—hope you won't mind! You'll get full credit in the article, naturally.

RE: The Misadventures of a Mantis

Well, I've come to the conclusion that naps simply don't work for me. After staying up until about 11.45AM since I promised I'd have the OLS2 article ready yesterday (working on it for a lot of this with a couple of FMA episodes to keep me awake) I decided I had no choice but to get a nap. Apparently, any longer than thirty minutes and you'll be very groggy, so it's best to keep naps short. Since I knew that despite my tiredness, it'd take me a while to fall asleep (it always does) so I set my alarm for 12.30PM.

My alarm was pretty loud. But I slept through it for over three hours. Yup, that's right. I did get up at that point to continue my work, but fell asleep on my chair. x_x Well, I guess having four hours of sleep isn't bad; it should help even things out a little since I usually need nine to be well rested. But the guide was right; I'm extremely groggy. Well, I intend to rectify this and finish the job. I finished the translation and map work and my next task is gathering information about the Retaliation sequel.

I'm glad I lasted beyond daybreak, but I think it's about time to head out and buy a couple of energy drinks. I fear that I will crash, but come on, they should tide me over until I satisfy my desire. If only I had some of this elixir beforehand which would have kept me feeling grand through the night, and perhaps helped me survive another day. There is some uneasiness and tension from this expectation to write the article as a couple have been asking about it, and I sure wish I had the freedom to be a total slacker sometimes. Let's go!

(I can't believe I just did that. If I had uploaded OST 2 by now, I could have made it even geekier.)

RE: The Misadventures of a Mantis

Well, my sleep's been f*****d up beyond comprehension for the past few days. As such, I've put off a lot of tasks I should have been working on because I've either felt too tired, or too irritable to spend considerable time on anything. Fortunately, I think I might be on a path towards improvement. For a lack of better words, I'm so tired of lying in bed for hours unable to sleep despite being very tired during the day. Gotta envy those who claim to be able to fall asleep within ten minutes or so.

'Suppose I'll see what I can get done today, aside from a bit of Crayon Physics Deluxe and TF2.

I understand the sleep feeling, but I finally got my butt into gear on that. It was definitely needed. I'm glad to hear that your on track. I need to work on that myself instead of letting stuff pile up, mostly with school, waiting till the day before is starting to bite me in the a**. And mantis you seem like you got a lot on your plate. Running this site, doing your projects, and your personal stuffs. Its good just to take a break and give yourself some "me" time, or time to relax. Definitely refreshes/recharges me. And on a good night I can fall asleep in 5mins haha, but most nights that's not the case XD

RE: The Misadventures of a Mantis

Well, thanks for the nice words, but alas, so much for my sleep issues coming to an end! Although admittedly in part due to my own will, last night (this morning I suppose) I stayed up until around 6.00AM, since I decided I'd stay up until I'm tired as not doing so results in lying in bed bored out of my skull for hours. Except the same happened and it wasn't far off 9.00AM when I actually fell asleep. I woke up around 5.00PM. Well, more like 3.00PM but I kept drifting in and out of sleep for a couple of hours. Marvellous.

Get checked by a GP. They might help sort this sleep thing out.

Last thing we need is a Mantis dying because he couldn't molt properly.

RE: The Misadventures of a Mantis

Some good news is that my sleep is a lot better now. Some even better news is that the site is back as you all well know, but I'm going to add a lot of kickass features to it soon.

But the best news of all?! I finally beat Lloyd at that goddamn 7up Pinball game in the Arcade! (Link opens scores page.) I've been trying to beat his score for months now, and the game sucks because of the horrible collision detection. Best part about it? This music was playing when I got the high score.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-lDqAlXZHo

Yes, this high score is worthy of a journal entry. Oh, the euphoria from beating that game that has cheated me for so long now. I'm sorry Lloyd, but if you're as stubborn as me you're about to enter a world of pain.
