    RE: Capital Punishment

So, this is an extreme scenario yes, but let's say you had a young daughter who you were very close with, and she was raped and stabbed to death by a group of hoods. Are you saying you'd feel no desire at all to kill? Might you be a robot, or a saint? Is it not understandable that under these extreme emotional circumstances, one might kill?

Do realise we were made to kill. We might live in societies with plenty of taboos, but killing is only human in the end. And when the pain exceeds the ability to cope, sometimes it is understandable.

    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

    RE: Capital Punishment

    Extreme is right.
    Provocation enough to be sure.
But it wont bring her back.
I might feel better, I might have justified it to the world, but in this scenario my daughter is still dead.
All I've done is taken life.

I'm not saying it is right or wrong.
But that is all I would be left with.

    RE: Capital Punishment

It's best to kill. Killing brings closure. Killing brings peace. Killing is human, in the most fundamental way possible. To suppress the urge to kill farther than required by social taboo is unhealthy.

    Execution by manual meat grinder.

    How's that for a deterrent?

And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

Good idea! Or by flaying, parboiling, ripping, the thousand cuts, the iron cross, or simply breaking every bone in the felon's body starting with the feet.

    RE: Capital Punishment

Well, in Michigan they don't have the death penalty which I find pretty dandy . I dunno, call me soft but if we have criminals I feel safe as long as they're behind bars. Although this is a dumb high-schooler's perspective so maybe I'm just barfing out stuff my school brainwashed into me. Either way I'm glad we at least develop more humane methods for the death penalty as time goes by but I like my bad guys locked in the big house anyday.
This is my signature, isn't it great?

    RE: Capital Punishment

No, I don't think we can be more than human. We are Man, nothing more, nothing less. As C.S. Lewis once said, "Our lineage from Adam should be pride enough to lift the shoulders of the least beggar, and the guilt enough to humble the mightiest emperor." We cannot rise above ourselves, nor delve beneath.

I don't accept that, I believe we have the capacity for so much more.
Albeit transcendence is a near possibility.
