    RE: Capital Punishment

Even if we do achieve a new age or something, we will still BE men, down in the pits of our hearts. Look at the transfer from the middle ages to the renaissance: Human nature was unchanged. Human nature never changes. We are brutal and shortsighted, but at least we're consistant.

How then do we account for the Gandhis and Dr. Kings of the world?
    Those who achieved great things by suppressing their brutality;
those who foresaw a greater world through positive social change.

The presence of human nature within us all may be an absolute,
but adherence to it is not.

I dare to be optimistic. XD

I accept your challenge. As many people have said, the exception proves the rule. Human nature is innate. You cannot escape it; it always comes to claim its own.

The servant may defy its master my friend.
It may come to claim, but one need not answer the call.

I'm anti-death penalty for one reason and one reason alone: Something like half of all death row prisoners were later exonerated by DNA evidence. I understand the need to make sure the worst scum can't hurt anybody again, but I can't agree with it when they're killing innocent people in the process.

This is why it should only be used in the most concrete of cases, with no gaps in evidence or accounts, etc.. I would like to see it brought back here, but not as something to be used on a whim.

Y'know, like the stone age government in Iran does.

    RE: Capital Punishment

Alright, I have this to say: A mother who kills her 13 year old son and 16 year old daughter for "mouthing off" needs to die, hopefully by hanging. A man who rapes and murders 3 girls needs to die. A boy who drugs and tortures to death his father, his mother, his little brother and his grandfather needs to die. A boy who uses a drill to kill his grandparents needs to die. A man who stabs 5 people needs to die. Need I go on?

The more I read this thread, the more I'm convinced I'm running Psychopaths UK... (And USA, for that matter.)
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"
