RE: The best game you have ever played

Oh man, this was a hard one until Jaywray mentioned...

Ape Escape) INSTANT classic right there! The game's analog control scheme made it incredibly smooth to play and the variety of levels you explore is just astounding. If anyone hasn't tried the series I would recommend at least trying Ape Escape 3 for the PS2 since it's easier to find than the original and it's also one of my favorites.

The runner ups on my list would be

Metal Gear Solid) Another PSone classic, the storyline alone is enough for the game to be brilliant. Lots of fun random trivia for military and nuclear weapons buffs.

Shadow of the Colossus) Graphically stunning for a PS2 game and still looks lovely today. No fighting hordes of bad guys that all look generically the same, instead you only fight 16 bosses and then the game's over. Although half the game is just exploring the beautiful world to find these giant beings and then engaging them in epic battles of cinematic proportions.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time) Tons of other people also agree on this being the best video game ever made, no surprise either. The controls are very smooth, battles always kept epic even during the most simple encounters.
This is my signature, isn't it great?

RE: The best game you have ever played

    So many games already posted...
I suppose my favourite games would be:

Sonic DX: Director's Cut: for the Gamecube. I put so many hours into this game, busy raising Chao in the gardens. X3
[b][u] Sonic Adventure Battle 2[u]: for the Gamecube. They just don't make games like these anymore. Most of the new Sonic games, I'm too embarrassed to admit I've played them ^^; Once again, getting the A ranks and Chao Garden was my saviour. I think I made almost every type of chao possible.
Nintendogs: for the DS. Uncool, I know.. but who cares? X3
Phoenix Wright and all his series: for the DS. You can't go wrong the the defense attorney!
Fallout 1, 2, Tactics, 3 and New Vegas: for the Computer and Xbox 360. There's so much content in these games that you can play and play and play and never discover truly everything! I still remember when I found a led-lined fridge with a skeleton and an Indiana Jones' hat in the middle of the wasteland..
Lineage II: The Chaotic Throne/Kamael/Freya: for PC. This is an mmorpg which I play online regularly. I'm clan leader of a level 6 clan called OutlawStar. My main character is a lvl 85 Storm Screamer (nuker mage) called Pawen.

So many games still un-named, but still... =3

Katey: I installed DOSBox on my Pandora but I haven't figured out how to use it yet. When I do I'll be sure to check out the first two you mentioned. (Since I've already played Doom and Wolfenstein countless times!)

Flare: OutlawStar, nice clan name. I used to go around as Gene_S on an MMO I used to play with an avatar who looked like Gene. It was great fun, though I wasted a damn lot of a summer break on it! I still really want to check out the older Fallout games.

I don't have just one 'best game' that I have ever played, but here are games which I like the most still to this day and find of high quality:

    Crash Bandicoot 2
    Diablo 2
    Half-Life 1
    Half-Life 2
    God of War 3
    C&C: Red Alert 2
    Heavy Rain
    Homeworld 1
    Bioshock (2)
    Ecco The Dolphin
    Grand Theft Auto IV
    Mortal Kombat 2
    Sim City 3000
    Pharaoh
    The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

HL2 seems to be showing up with decent frequency. To be honest, I didn't like the game much until Ravenholm and that's probably what prevents it from making my favorite list. Once you get past the "KILL MANHACKS WITH A PISTOL LOL" stage, though, it's a fun FPS.

Chrono Trigger's another good one. I enjoyed it, and I normally detest JRPGs. Not trying to be insulting, I don't think any less of someone for liking them.

I actually didn't discover Ecco the Dolphin until high school. I mainly found it notable for being rather creepy and controller-breakingly hard.

Red Alert 2 isn't my favorite RTS, but damn do I have some fond memories of it. It was the first game I really played online extensively, and me and my friends got a huge kick out of the cutscenes.

I find your list intriguing. The ones I am with you on I did a little * beside, that * is so cute

One that should be added to the list
    FEAR
It was short-ish but for its release time it was the best FPS(horror) out

+1 for F.E.A.R. which is a game I'm currently (on and off) replaying. It was groundbreaking for its time and is still extremely fun today despite being graphically inferior. I guess I could say the same about Doom, which is much older. Then again, the "graphically inferior" part is down to the eyes of the beholder, really. I loved Doom's pixel art.
