    RE: The First Alien War

And so begins the efforts of X-COM: Klendathu Division.

Established on January 1st, 1999 somewhere between Swansea and Cardiff along the coast is a top secret military base.

It is from this precise point within the U.K that the Aliens will be fought back. There is no-where Klendathu can't reach.

The rifles and firearms are bought from Russia. The explosives from Iraq. Heavy Weapon Platform Tanks (HWP for short) are imported from Japan. Scientists from various top ranking universities around the world are gathered and only the best engineers are hired.

Soldiers serving under the KGB, Spetznaz, GRU, SAS, SEALS and NATO are brought in. Only the most specialized are recruited for Klendathu.

Hi-tech top of the line Raptor X-16 "Interceptor" jets and Chinhook VTOL "Skyranger" transport craft are constructed and ordered.

X-COM: Part 1 - Klendathu Division is ready to go!

There have been few sightings of UFOs recently. Maybe the arrival of X-COM has slowed or stopped the invasion?

No, we don't have eyes everywhere. We can't possibly know what's occuring in say South Africa or Japan. We'll need information to be brought in monthly on these locations.

Reports come in that Aliens are moving towards Australia. It's time for Klendathu to go X-COM: Part 2 - Down Under.

The Combat Satellite feed will show us what happened later this evening.

    RE: The First Alien War

Oh, you just had to throw in a Starship Troopers reference at the very end, didn't you?

Personally I think some of the stuff could've been cut (for example, the time spent switching around weapons - I would've skipped straight to the final equipment), but it's good that you have commentary in your videos now!

I can't believe you sold all your Avalanche launchers! The ammo might be bulky and expensive, but they make it a lot easier to take down UFOs before they can run away and save your interceptors a lot of wear and tear, since they outrange most UFO weaponry.

Looking forward to kicking the aliens out of Australia.

    RE: The First Alien War

Great stuff. I look forward to seeing the battle in Australia.

A couple of gripes: Is it just me or is there a lot of popping (for a lack of better words) in the audio? I think the emulation may have been a bit choppy, so I hope you can fix that. Also like I said you should have recorded microphone to a separate audio track. It's often very difficult to hear your voice.

I think Dr. K raised a good point with editing. That could have probably been made a bit shorter, though it did teach me a thing or two about X-COM and I look forward to eventually playing it via my Xbox 360 *gets shock baton'd* DOSBox.

I'm not one to complain much but I can agree on the audio, though I can manage. The commentary is for sure a good addition to the videos. Can't wait to see how the first mission lays out! Hope I survive XD

    RE: The First Alien War

As mentioned within either the first or second video, FRAPS and DOSBox don't mix all that well. The result of using FRAPS is that DOSBox's framerate isn't as "loose" as it likes and thus comes sound and framerate issues.

The next batch of recordings will probably be done with Hypercam but it'd take a few days to get that pitch perfect.

All members of Klendathu Division I apologise for the late arrival of the combat footage. There were some processing issues within the last section which details an issue that shall be addressed shortly.

Klendathu Division touched down in Melbourne, Australia without a hitch although from the skies it was obvious that the Aliens were on a Seek & Destroy mission. Since this was our first Combat Operation casualties were a given.

I must stress that this variety of mission is significantly tougher than what we could assume a UFO Crash to be. For now we shall examine the X-COM: Part 3 - Terror In Melbourne.

The firefights of which Klendathu had to endure were tough. Unknown Aliens were fighting on the ground alongside some sort of miniature UFO. Very quickly we found Civilians were being executed and that's the point where Klendathu had to start X-COM : Part 4 - Takin' Names.

The urban warfare has dealt a large toll on both Human and Alien resources and manpower. It's not long before the Alien situation becomes obvious. We lost some good men but we can't stop to mourn.

Klendathu took but X-COM: Part 5 - Not One Step Back.

Weapon development for the Laser Rifles is proceeding well and research into alternative firearms will pick up speed thanks to the expansion of Influence.

Unfortunatly it seems we're headed to X-COM: Part 6 - Chicago...

Figures I'm the first X-Com casualty of the entire war.

Not that it'll stop me from making a propaganda poster soon.

Audio and Visual issues are believed to have been fixed. Expect to be able to hear my voice better and most of the sound issues gone. Video should also be smoother.

    RE: The First Alien War

As far as I could see I survived, unless you've provided a spoiler for the next part. D'oh. You put me on the front lines too often! XD

Edit: I was careless and didn't see there was a part five and six. Damn. Oh well. If it wasn't me, it might have been another trooper and I took a few of the bastards out at least.

    RE: The First Alien War

The skyranger touches down within Chicago. The back door opens up and the tank rolls out. The thick night makes it hard to see anything here. But we can be absolutely sure that a new alien race is here. People's lives are at stake so Klendathu needs to move fast or lose our alliance with America.

The fighting here will surely scar the soldier's memories. I hope they never suffer from X-COM: Part 7 - Night Terror.

Stepping off of the ramp we are under heavy fire from the word go. The tank gives some civilians some cover as Kokirininja attempts to clear the left flank. Strelok is sent to help and NecroMantis deploys a cunning tactic.

Spaceman Spiff keeps tabs on an Alien as Fegelein moves to become it's X-COM: Part 8 - Unfatal Saviour.

The end result of this battle is clear. Klendathu is the winner in this second confrontation on human soil. But the arrival of the new Alien race bodes a question that we must answer. How many more types of Alien are there? For now, we must maintain hopes of victory as X-COM: Part 9 - Chicago Wins this time.

After research decisions and manufactoring orders more UFOs appear. The first one is almost always destroyed when engaged but this time luck plays us the better hand.

All it hears is Klendathu's footsteps towards the Alien as the battle cry sounds. X-COM: Part 10 - Death To The Loner.

Some operatives may have noticed that there's a decision to be made at the end of the last video uplink. Whichever option gets the most votes will be the outcome.

Do we raid the UFO which is larger than what we've fought before or do we ignore it in the hopes of our own survival?

If our foresight is correct, the ship is most likely deploying an Alien Base which will start farming North America for experimentation.

EDIT: Dr.Killjoy has stated that we must attack due to the need of whatever the ship contains. The Combat Op is recorded in about an hour.
