Why the VII? What Jericho are you talking about?

    Ship idea:
    Vendetta =
    Medium
    Computer MK 1.
    Shield MK 1.
    3x Lasers
    1x Nukes with a 2 nuke payload.

Jam whatever else you want into the spare space.

    Second ship idea:
    Wasp =
    Small
    Laser

    Third:
    Mimir:
    Medium
2x Nukes with 5 nuke payload
EITHER 1 Shield MK 1 or Laser. Up to you.

Feel free to only use 1 and discard the rest for any purpose.

Reach was a planet in the Halo universe that was glassed. Jericho VII was a planet in the Halo universe that was glassed. It seemed as if you were listing two Halo planets since it's a bit coincidental to have them next to each other, otherwise.

Nah, Jericho as in Clive Barker's Jericho. I was wondering if I had somehow listed another Halo reference.

RE: Let's play Master of Orion! (Colony names, ship designs wanted)

My army of scientists were being shit, and left me a piece of paper saying this:

    Name: Fegelein
    Size: Small
Desc: It's a cheap and fast fighter that does minimal damage but is never alone. It's a goddamned bat... IN SPAAAAAACE.

*If the name confuses anyone, go and watch some Der Untergang/Downfall parodies. Fegelein's the bastard that throws a spanner in the works almost each and every time there's a plan.
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

RE: Let's play Master of Orion! (Colony names, ship designs wanted)

Thanks for the ship submissions, guys. I'll be taking using the Mimir and Fegelein designs.

Also, we've got war this update. I assume that's what you guys were all waiting for.

The war effort needs your effort! Part 1/4

Two of our military engineers, BaronOfStuff and Heresiarch Grimm, have developed spacecraft for us to use in case of Alkari incursion. Baron's contribution, the Fegelein, is shown here. It's a bare-bones design, not powerful on its own but cheap and light enough that we can hammer them out in large quantities.

Despite the improved rockets we have available, Grimm decided to use the new, lighter and cheaper nuclear missiles we developed by discovering them. This "sniper" will open up canned sunshine on the enemy while the Fegeleins harass them.

Map32 is our best place to produce Mimirs, but they're not needed there.

Therefore, they will be immediately sent to the frontline at LJN upon production.
This would be what Relocate does. It's not just convenient, but it also lets the produced ships reach their destinations a (possible crucial) turn sooner.

Sentinel 3, meanwhile, will build the Fegeleins better suited to its smaller industrial base.
Sadly, Sentinel 3 will typically only give us 8 or so Fegeleins per turn. The reason we're getting so many now is that earlier I cancelled a colony ship while it was being built - when this happens, the BC aren't wasted but are instead spent towards whatever else you decide to build.

A short while later, here's our new space fleet. It's not going to conquer the galaxy or anything, but since Alkari military presence near our borders is light, it should be enough for now.

We're about to find out! We've got an Alkari fleet at 3DO! Let's see what we're dealing with.

Okay, that ship seems to be armed, and it's advancing on our scout. What's it called, anyway?

The Falcon doesn't seem too impressive, but it doesn't need to be to wipe out a scout ship.

So we're going to run off for now. Hopefully it doesn't have any anti-planet weaponry.
If a fleet has bombs or other heavy weapons and orbits an enemy planet, it has the option to bombard that planet to kill colonists and destroy factories. Thankfully, this ship didn't have any nukes.

    2/4

Damn, that wasn't just an isolated incident! The Alkari are attacking us! They've got 21 million soldiers headed towards CD-I!

Their equipment seems to be the same, but we have numbers on our side. Let's show these bastards who they're messing with!
And this is ground combat. It's pretty simple - to attack a planet with ground troops, you send colonists to an enemy planet instead of one of your own. The colonists and soldiers are one and the same for both sides - the planet's entire population fights back. Combat is done when all soldiers on one side are dead. Some hidden dice rolls determine who wins and how many losses he takes. Winner gets the colony.

The invasion of CD-I has been repelled, but they bled us pretty badly. Alkari losses, 21 million. Human losses, 17 million.

Now that we're out war and our weapons have arrived at the border, let's try to organize our defenses. I send Mimirs and Fegeleins to each outer planet. First things first, 2 Mimirs will go to deal with the Falcon that's hovering over 3DO.

They've set up shop at CD-I, too. A few Fegeleins should be enough to kick them out.

It looks like they're sending an invasion force to 3DO, too. If we can kick out their fleet there and orbit the planet with our own, we should be able to shoot down some of their dropships.

    Fight! Fight for humanity!

They're not backing down even though we outnumber them two-to-one. They're toast once they get in missile range.

That's close enough! Time to make 'em glow in the dark.

    [hr]

YES! YES! THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR MESSING WITH A SPECIES THAT CAN DISH OUT NUCLEAR DEATH!

...Well, this is embarrassing. That salvo was the only one that hit before we ran out of ammo. Even considering we're against the Alkari, that's pretty bad luck. Still, the Mimirs are left weaponless, and we need to preserve them. They'll jump back to LJN.

Maybe we'll have better luck here?

The Pelican is a typical fighter. I assume it's armed...

...but there's no weapons you can mount on a fighter that'll make it want to fight Fegeleins that outnumber it 15 to 1.

For reasons I don't know, the enemy Falcon left 3DO just as Alkari transports arrived to invade it. That works well for us, though, since a handful of Fegeleins arrived there shortly afterward. They don't pack a lot of punch, but they were able to down a few enemy dropships. That'll make things a lot easier on our ground troops.

Again, same equipment but we have the numerical advantage. Our victory is assured.

Even so, it was a messy fight, costing each side 29 million soldiers. These meatgrinders are hurting us as much as they are the Alkari.

Enemy transports trying to land on CD-I also meet the wrath of our fleet. Get enough Fegeleins together and even they can put the hurting on the enemy.

Thanks to the efforts of our fleet, we were able to defend CD-I with minimal losses. I just hope the Alkari ground forces run out of steam soon.

I knew we wouldn't be able to trust the shitty birdmen. It's that inherent envy they all possess, they've always been jealous of lifeforms that have teeth and fully opposable thumbs.

    Pop those sons of bitches.

RE: Let's play Master of Orion! (Colony names, ship designs wanted)

^ Oops, made a mistake. Part 3/4 is untitled, but it's there - it's the untitled spoiler section right below part 2.

    4/4

We'll need better weapons if we want to make the big push into Alkari territory. While this scanner isn't particularly impressive, it'll let us see their fleet deployments and planetary information at a greater distance. It opens up the following research options:
    -ECM Jammer II (1470 RP)
-Improved Robotic Controls III (1920 RP): Right now, we can have 2 factories per million people on each planet. This tech will raise it to 3 factories per million, giving us a nice boost to production.
    -Battle Computer III (3000 RP)
For now, though, we'll research Battle Computer II. It won't take long to develop, and we need to actually be able to hit the enemy.

Very nice! This will basically halve our environmental cleanup costs. Researching it opens the following techs:
    -Controlled Tundra Environment (860 RP)
    -Improved Terraforming +20M (1530 RP)
    -Controlled Dead Environment (1940 RP)
The "Controlled Environment" techs, obviously, let us colonize planets with those particular environments. We haven't seen Tundra or Dead planets yet, and Terraforming +20M is rather expensive, so for now let's go with Improved Terraforming +10M. More colonists means more soldiers and factories, after all.

The Alkari have beaten us to a nearby planet, Denubius. Its population is very low right now - only 4 million - and we're attacking it with 27 million troops shipped from LJN. Problem is, the Alkari have an additional 23 million troops coming in, but at least they'll arrive after ours. Still, this operation comes down to Lady Luck.

More new tech! Since gatling lasers fire 4 times per turn but cost and weigh less than 4 regular lasers, they're definitely a good deal. We get no new weapons tech from this, so let's move on to researching the Neutron Pellet Gun.
If you want one of your ship designs updated to incorporate these new lasers, let me know. Just be aware they won't fit on small craft.

The time has come! This marks the first time in the war we're off the defensive and on the attack. Capturing this planet will bring us one step closer to winning.

Victory, and we lost 3 million troops to their 4 million. We now own the planet, and we'll have superior numbers when their backup forces arrive.

    I...but we were already...you...I don't...
Maybe this makes sense to the Alkari mind, I don't know. It's not like we escalated the conflict or anything - it was already pretty much a total war.

Why am I even bothering? It's a fight to the death now, and that's not likely to change.

Yeah, it took the Alkari this long to formally declare war. When that happens, all trade agreements are broken and you can't do diplomacy with them for awhile.

We defended Denubius, and did it quite well - they lost 23 million troops to our 15 million.
Yeah, I'm afraid it's still Denubius. We can't rename captured enemy colonies.

Still, that hit the planet pretty bad, and it won't be able to survive another attack without help. We'll send in some backup colonists from LJN and build some Fegeleins at Map32 for orbital defense.

So, by my last count, we had 6 colonies and they had 7. When we took one of theirs, that reversed to 7-6. So we should be ahead now, right?

    Well, shit.

I don't care how many colonies and forces they have. There's no way I'll accept anything but victory against a galactic empire ruled by one of these:

Remember the Vendetta? If that design ever gets used, swap the lasers for Gatling lasers. The whole idea of the Vendetta is volume of fire.

As for the whole planet invasion thing, I'm glad it's working out for us (so far)
