Hah, you had to include K-Yerp. XD Well, he was a good player. Death rays... sounds dangerous. Time to play some grenade pinball, then.

RE: UFO:AI (OLS:UK fights yet more aliens!)

    He's not the only one!

But yeah, due to how there are various character models/skins in this game (that are picked by the game at random) I'm trying to avoid the use of 'cloning machines' in the event that someone croaks.

I mean, suddenly having a tall white guy turn into a tall black guy with permanently fixed sunglasses on his face kinda defies how cloning is supposed to work. You'll probably scream when some of the other 'mercenaries' make themselves known though. Well, one of them definitely.

RE: UFO:AI (OLS:UK fights yet more aliens!)

Bah, 10 image limit. Time to chow down on three posts, but at least they're all contained within spoilers.

Here it is, the very first mission that our covert unit has been sent on. Nobody here gets life insurance, because officially speaking, nobody here exists. Got it?

    OPERATION: ALIEN DAWN

    Part 1

On landing, there was instant visual contact with the crashed UFO. There also seemed to be nothing more than one alien in the vicinity, standing around scratching his xenomorph ass while our forces exited the dropship and took their positions.

K-Yerp: "Positions, people! Remember your training! Shoot first and ask questions later!"
Somasol: "Hey, why wasn't Stuffknight sent with us?"
Mantis: "He's playing NES games with one of the mercenaries back at base."
Somasol: "What?! Is he getting preferential treatment for being a clone of the commander or something?"
Dr. Killjoy: "After seeing what he plays, I actually consider myself far more fortunate to have been sent here."

Aishawasframed!: "We've got visual on one!"
K-Yerp: "Oh good, we won't have to go mooching around far to gun down these space-refugees then."

This feeling of overwhelming power was short-lived though, as Flare spotted a second alien (also seeming to do nothing of worth) while scouting north for any civilians...

Flare: "Got another visual on a hostile! He's... scratching himself nonchalantly."
K-Yerp: "Hmmm, maybe I'll get to kill something myself after all!"

...and then she saw a third alien. Things were starting to look like they could potentially go downhill sooner than expected, although we still had a massive advantage over the invaders.

    Flare: "...and another!"
Diz: "What is it doing? Is it yellow?"

That seemed to be the lot as everyone moved out, with our two snipers moving in separate teams in an effort to pincer the invading scum. This initially caused problems for Aisha, who received a low-powered bolt to the chest for his troubles before easily scrabbling back for cover. These aliens seemed pretty underpowered, which gave Mantis all the excuses he needed to break cover to go outside and attack one with his favourite toy, the Grenade Launcher. Surely he wasn't going to miss, not at this range?

    Mantis: "Watch this, guys..."

Mantis: "Yeah, eat that you son of a bi-! Ow!"

Clearly not. Although the alien had ideas of its own and somehow not only managed to survive the blast, but returned fire too, scoring a hit. A pathetic, ticklish hit, but a hit all the same.

    [hr]
    Part 2

Which in turn just lead to said alien receiving another 40mm shell to the face, ending its miserable life.

Mantis: "Suck on this, you blobby-headed mother****er..."
Nix: "Hey, Doc. Seeing as we're probably badly equipped for the rest of this operation, want to hide here and play Janken until it's over?"
Dr. Killjoy: "Yes. Yes I do."

Amidst the fighting, Yerp also broke cover to take a potshot at an offending lifeform outside and to the south:

K-Yerp: "Wait... what the hell am I doing?! Someone cover me, NOW!!"

With Aisha clambering onto a roof to try and make a mark of his own:

    Aishawasframed!: "I'm on it!"

...but he missed horribly. Elsewhere, Diz, Flare and Somasol continued moving north in an attempt to flank the UFO crash site and pick off the other alien, now skulking around a nearby farmhouse.

Diz: "I'm hungry. Did anyone bring anything to eat?"
    Flare: "Nope. Soma?"
Somasol: "No, but I do have this!"
Flare: "Don't eat that Diz, it's a grenade."

The southern alien took a shot at K-Yerp, with the latter's Combat Armour quite possibly saving his life and allowing him to score another hit of his own in return.

K-Yerp: "EURUKA! NU ÄR JAG ETT SANT ÄGGHUVUD!?"

Back up north, Soma and Diz finished off the other alien, while Flare stood around staring into the farmhouse, trying to figure out just what they were watching on their TV.

Diz: "I got him! I GOT HIM!"
    Flare: "OH HELL, REALITY TV!!"
    Diz/Soma: "...what?"

    [hr]
    Part 3

With both his comrades now resembling a pair of stomped-on over-ripe tomatoes, this last alien was screwed. If Aisha missed this shot, Mantis was sure to blast it into spacedust with that GL of his, and even if that failed, K-Yerp was about to unleash a storm of full-auto hell...

Aishawasframed!: "Smile, you son of a *****!"

    But Aisha didn't miss.

So with the last of the three /bears/ aliens downed, the mission was a resounding success. Thankfully the enemy firepower here doesn't seem to be anywhere near as lethal as it was in the TFTD conflict, else we'd have three or more of you returning home in bodybags courtesy of "Faster Than Light" Couriers.

FASTER THAN LIGHT: We Deliver Yesterday!!

Post-skirmish, the enemy UFO was recovered and sold to a funding nation to keep them on-side. Currently, all funding nations are pleased with what we've done so far, although this is only the beginning.

Victory! Keep this up and we'll have this little invasion wrapped up in no time.

Doesn't look like I or Nix will be doing much until we get in a fight with more close-range combat, though.

RE: UFO:AI (OLS:UK fights yet more aliens!)

I'll probably equip you both with another weapon for the time being, or think up some way of giving everyone a multi-purpose role within operations. Because as fun as it is to avoid combat by sitting around and playing Janken, slacking on the job will just get you nowhere regarding development, and result in you being reduced to a pattern of ashes and/or mush later down the line.

    Update:
Somehow, I missed the fact that the injuries sustained on this mission were reasonably harsh. As it stands, Mantis, Yerp and Aisha are officially a trio of hospital patients, with 'Medium', 'Medium' and 'Heavy' wounds suffered respectively:
    HERE BE CHARTS AND GRAPHS

Turns out that Yerp was right all along. He did require that armour after all.

No idea how long you'll be in there for, but at least you are (for the moment) safe from achieving the unwanted status of KIA. Unless I feel like pulling a Stalin and send you away without sufficient equipment, but I wouldn't do that. Oh no, not I.

    EDIT:
This of course means I will be hiring more soldiers to cover these vacancies. Some of you may be familiar with these recruits/mercenaries... but not necessarily on good terms with them.

Hmm, I'm either the green sunglasses or the manly dude with the stubble...
You're asking for historical accuracy in a series where men weilding three swords in each hand, pirates surfing across land on giant anchors, horses with motocycle parts attached and feudal-era Power Rangers are the norm?

Green sunglasses. Or at least, the person wearing them.

I've got insider information on the next battle.

    But I'm not spoiling anything.
