This year a lot of us won't be able to see our family as we usually do for the holidays, or perhaps just in a limited capacity. In lieu of that fact, let's take some time to reflect on some of our favorite holiday memories from years past.
For me, It is probably getting a PlayStation 1 for Christmas in the year 1999 or 2000 (can't recall). Sure it had been out for years at that point, but I wasn't really aware of it until my grandmother got one and kept talking it up each time I saw her. She called me during the Summer and said "guess what I got?" and proceeded to tell me about her PS1. She always liked to be the center of attention and I don't think she considered how much I would pine for a PS1 for the next 6 months or so. My parents to this day never bought me a game console, save for a Sega Genesis they found for $15 at a yard sale. It was a glorious moment when I opened up that PSOne (the smaller version, which leads me to believe that this took place during the year 2000) and a single game: Jet Moto.
My neighbor who I've spoken about here before was a lot older than me and served as my babysitter once in a while, he was 14 and a "big kid". Thus, he introduced me to way cooler games than I was aware of, namely Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy VIII (yes, 8). After a few days of Jet Moto he heard that I had a PlayStation and loaned me his copy of FFVIII. The rest is history.
