Do you ever feel like you are not all you can be?

Sometimes I wonder if this is really the farthest I can stretch myself.I for one am so much of a quitter that I am becoming worried. I like to try new things like writing, music, art but at the first sign of trouble I quit just like that. I like to tell myself that I dodged some kind of bullet but now am starting to think otherwise. What makes you stick to one thing and see it through to the end? What motivates you to keep going in the same direction till you reach your destination?

Yes, I always feel like I am not fulfilling my potential. I am quite an intelligent person, yet here I am, out of college. I am suffering from major depression and social anxiety, so I had to pull myself out of school and just work. Right now, I hope I could save money so I could go back and finish. Also, I believe that I have the inquisitive capability to become a doctor or a researcher, so I always push myself to work hard for the future.

Same, always doing things one way, and telling myself or being told i could do better if i really tried.
And my biggest flaw being : postponing tomorrow. And that is what gets me in trouble, for relationships, administration, or studies.
I should have already prepared two big homework and here i am barely scratching the suface of the first one.
The worst is i have 5 orals for November.
    Never overestimate mankind.

I've always been a perfectionist. If I'm going to commit to something I must do the best job I can. Because of that sometimes the task can be overwhelming as I set heavy and ultimately unnecessary expectations. The worry can make me procrastinate and then when the approaching task seems like a huge tsunami that's going to swallow me up I hit the eject button and "quit". I'm also more likely to do this if there are external factors causing me stress. But I still land in the waves anyway because I'll beat myself up about it for ages.

I wish I had the money to hire Mr T to kick my ass whenever I'm slacking. I think what people (including myself) need to do is regard failures as successes, as silly as it sounds. Perhaps the common proverb "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" applies here. Our failures tell us what to avoid doing the next time. Unfortunately a lot of us only look at the negatives and completely miss this.

On the plus side I'm a stubborn bastard. Even if I haven't fulfilled something yet, if I'm passionate about it I will in due time. That works with personal hobbies and passion projects but not with jobs or schoolwork.

    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

Given enough time, I think there is no limit to what we can achieve.

On the other hand, there are plenty of distractions that can draw us away from things we wish to do...

From time to time, I will be in a "daze" of sorts... unable to accomplish anything noteworthy for days, even months. I'm in that kind of thing right now. I've been getting more hours at work, and not been managing my time outside of it, so it seems like I just sleep, eat and go to work. It's not a very fun cycle, upon closer inspection... but I've never had this much time at work, and I don't know how to restructure.

I'll get myself out of this rough patch... somehow

If all you do is spend the time to actualize the best you, then you will eventually burn out. Also, focusing each day on what you should be doing rather than what you want to do can also lead to that. Sometimes, we all need a break somehow. After all, we are not an automaton, supposedly. Anyway, it's fine to work so hard, just have some time for yourself or your hobbies, even if just a few hours each week.

I feel like I let things slip away that I should have taken advantage of or spent more time on. I have talents and such that I just never kept up with. Had I done so, who knows where I would be with any of that. I do feel like I am lazy. Like I can pump myself up and put my mind to achieve goals but I either don't start, start but talk myself out of it, or just quit halfway through because I am not happy with the results.

Yeah, there's that. It is true that too much pressure can break you rather than make you. When the pressure is at the minimum then things are still bad. That is why all we should do is push ourselves a little bit out of our comfort zones in order to handle the things that we can, and not those that we can't. It is also important to know and accept our limits. It is okay to fail sometimes; we are made to be complementary beings. That is to mean that we need each other and what one can't handle, another can.

Sometimes I definitely question my abilities, especially when it comes to school where I know I can do better than a C in average, I just simply don't spend enough time.

Yeah, you have to be ready for rejection if you want to delve into creative endeavors. Try not to take it personally. It's just part of the process. A rejection means at least you tried.

Think about this: your work isn't necessarily "bad," it's just not right for the person/place you submitted it. Go back over it again with fresh eyes, send it to someone else.... do whatever you have to, but keep trying. Don't give up.
