Movies with a Good Begining and a Bad Ending

Ram made me think about this when he brought up on Independence Day his other thread. Pretty good movie up until the stripper girlfriend, her son and their dog found a maintenance room in a LA tunnel and survived a billion degree fireball with the door open. The ending was really not well thought out. Patrice O'Neil described it best "If a turtle drove a junky '52 Chevy truck into your garage with a bazooka bolted to the hood and fired it to destroy your house.". If you think of others please do tell.

RE: Movies with a Good Begining and a Bad Ending

Being a 'Connoisseur of Crap' when it comes to all this cinematic bollocks, I'd find it easier to list films which are just shit all the way through. However, here's a few 'on topic' films that I remember without digging into the archives. Oh, and in these cases, it's literally the ending that's wanky. Not some halfway-point or something like that, we're talking about literally being a few seconds from the credits rolling. So without further delay...

    Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979)
Yeah yeah, I know what you're thinking; Baron mumbles about that bloody Italian zombie film again, the same one he slagged off a few months ago.

Well, yeah. It starts off fine and generally remains entertaining (if horribly cheesy) throughout, but the ending is awful... Jesus Christ, just look at it:

"What's the problem?", you may be saying. Oh come on, don't give me that. Never mind the traffic that's heading into the city (there's actually a valid excuse for that), but just listen to that last lot of dialogue. What shitty ending! ATMOSPHERE IS DESTROYED IN FIFTEEN ****ING SECONDS. I felt like I was watching a shitty prank show or something, who the **** decided to dub that shit in there?

    Day of the Dead (1985)
    More zombies?

Yes, more zombies. And no, not that shitty remake; that's shit all the way through. But before you say "how dare you try and rip one of the classic 'Dead' trilogy a new one!", take a seat and shut the hell up. This is one of my favourite films, but the ending is just a total waste and makes you feel somewhat cheated. And I don't mean the last few scenes feeling like they've been stitched together from random bits and pieces off the cutting-room floor, I mean that everything's fine until about 45 seconds from the very end. What happens to do this? Well in short, one of the characters opens a door, and...

    ...wakes up.

There's a bit more to it than that, but without ruining it for anyone who wants to see it, that's all I can really say. It's a bit of a let-down to say the least (there's no dramatic finale or anything), but the rest of the film more than makes up for the pretty shit ending.

    The Karate Kid (1984)
Only kidding, the ending to this one isn't shit.

Well it is, but not any shittier than the rest of this practically unwatchable, mind-achingly predictable ****fest. Whack-off* indeed, absolute crap.

*I know that's not what he says; go away.
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

RE: Movies with a Good Begining and a Bad Ending

Does it have to be movies?
    What about TV series?

Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis both have good opening, but when they decide to cancel it... they rushed to finish it off with poorly designed ending episodes. Poorly designed logic in the final episodes.
In SG-1, when the earth ship was attacked by 3 Ori ships in the orbit of Asgard homeworld, instead of launch their warships to help (they had a fleet of much more powerful ships), the Asgard found it was absolutely necessary to blow up their own planet at that moment. Sure, they planned it, but does it have to be that very moment? They knew the earth ship might not survive without their help. Yep, the explosion took the earth ship's shield down to 20%. It's more like a helping hand to the Ori.

In Atlantis, the low tech wraith hive ship all the sudden now can defeat the Atlantis city ship powered by not 1, but 3 ZPMs!! The Atlantis city with just one ZPM was able to resist the full firepower of an entire wraith fleet for days before the shield can be drained. Now just a few shots later, the shield was failing? Sure they gave the lame surprised story of the wraith ship is now powered by ZPM. Sure sure... the wraith hive wasn't designed to use ZPM, while Atlantis is. Does that even make sense?
Not only now the power of Ancients who built the mighty Atlantis had failed in front of a low tech wraith hive with just one ZPM, but also the all mighty Asgard beam weapons installed on the earth ships are ineffective. These Asgard energy weapons used to be able to torn the 13 mile long wraith hive ships into pieces in 2~3 shots, and it was also able to destroy the gigantic Ori ships who are the same ascended beings as the Ancients who built Atlantis in 7 shots, and it could 2 shot a fully shielded Ancient Warship built by the Replicators... Now it can only do "minimal damage" against a low tech, unshielded wraith hive? What the heck? lol... while a primitive projectile weapon - an earth missile was able to penetrate the hull of the hive... more what the heck?
Sure... even the ZPM really gave the wraith hive more power, it still doesn't explain how they all the sudden can detect a cloaked ancient scout ship. Yep, just because I upgraded a battery to a nuclear power plant, all the sudden I can see invisible things! right... lol

They rushed it to finish the final episodes because the show was cancelled. They have to put up a powerful enemy... they were out of ideas to come up with someone powerful in just one episode.
