    Black Mirror any good?

I read a bit about this series. I am not entirely sure I get the grasp of it though. A lot of people are rating it pretty high so it has piqued my interest. I have not watched anything other than 2 or 3 trailers. If anyone watches it here, without spoiling anything, would you say it is worth watching?

Yes, yes it is. I've watched most of the episodes. Since a long-awaited new season is coming tomorrow, I decided around a week ago to watch them all again. About ten minutes ago I finished watching Playtest, an episode which I never got round to seeing. It's about a guy who unfortunately ends up a guinea pig for an experimental prototype virtual/augmented-like reality game. A bit of a mindfuck.

That's the great thing about Black Mirror; it explores potential futures that don't seem that far from the truth. For instance, one episode from a couple of years ago has pretty much become true in China.

I know this probably goes without saying, but definitely use spoiler tags when necessarily. Because Black Mirror is episodic you can't really go wrong. It doesn't matter which order you watch them in. You can just read some synopses and watch a couple of episodes, and then if you like those, watch more. A few of my favourites and short synopses...

Fifteen Million Merits: In a dystopian future, much of humanity is confined to underground shelters and lives very routinely. Electricity is often generated on stationary bikes. One such worker called "Bing" has accumulated many merits over time, and has noticed that a young aspiring singer has a better use for merits. Obviously I'm not going to spoil this, but it's one hell of an episode and the meaning makes it worth watching.
Shut Up and Dance: Older teen boy is caught watching porn on his laptop and is manipulated by people online into breaking the law.
White Bear: Amnesiac woman wakes up in an empty house. Trying to find answers outside, all she can find is people trying to record her with their phones and people with more hostile intentions.

Oh yeah, another favourite that I recommend "watching" is Bandersnatch. Not only is it cool as a Black Mirror episode, but it's also very unique as it's like an FMV game. In other words, your decisions (often dialogue choices or sometimes actions) change how the episode plays out.

If you haven't checked out Black Mirror... what the hell are you waiting for?

I've heard really good things about the first season but heard that it falls apart after that and they run out of ideas? My boss and best friend have watched all of it and told me that I'd hate it, so I never tried watching it and thus can't comment on its quality directly. As Mantis said, since it's episodic you can probably just watch a few random ones or the highest rated episodes then branch out from there. Let me know if you like it since we tend to be pretty similar I think.

I don't think they ran out of ideas. There's a very decent variety. Of course, not all of the ideas are brilliant as season one's, but I'd rate the majority of the episodes way higher than most modern TV.

Did they tell you that because you generally dislike anything somewhat popular? *tips fedora* (Of course, I jest.)

I'll admit that I dislike virtually all live-action TV, but I don't blanket dislike popular things. A lot of popular stuff tends to be for normies though and it bores me to tears.
I think it's because these people I was talking to work/worked with me in IT, so while Black Mirror is really mind-blowing to the average person these are things we had discussed already or they weren't that impressive. Anyway, I haven't seen it so i'm not saying anything about the show being good or not, it could be excellent! I'm just explaining why I'm avoiding it: People who know me well told me not to bother. The same thing happened with Game of Thrones actually, my mom tried to get me to start watching it with her, but after she watched the first season she realized that I would feel nothing from it so she told me NOT to watch it. Imagine someone sending you a passionate text about NOT watching something.

I just finished watching Twin Peaks at my boss' urging. It took me from October until now to suffer through Seasons 1 & 2. I've got a movie to watch now and then Season 3 and it's ruining my life. I must be desensitized or something...watching actors on TV doesn't elicit any emotion from me. I'm like a dog or something, I see that the TV is on but I don't really tune in and react to the things happening on the screen. I'd be happy to watch a show that was really different, but TV shows have to be made with the average person in mind, so you tend to get boring stuff made for Soccer moms I guess?

If Yoko Taro directed a TV show, I'd watch that. Yes, I know he did stage plays, and no I'm not going to watch any more of them than I already have. The cringe was too strong.

    *TIPPING INTENSIFIES*

Edit: Our secretary at my office got peeved at me today because I didn't know who Ryan Reynolds is. I assume he's the guy who invented Reynolds Wrap?

I will have to check this out then. I have a hard time finding anything I like anymore because movies and shows all pander to some hidden yet obvious agenda. They ruined so many movies doing this crap and shows as well. I can't tell you the last time I watched a movie, I don't remember when it was.
