I can usually get very much involved with sci-fi/horror combinations regardless of medium.
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

Mainly action and comedy with a good dashing of sci-fi and crime. However, I'm open to any genre really as long as it's good.

I enjoy sci-fi, high fantasy, and mystery fiction the most. In movies, I really love period pieces.

I'm open to everything there as you didn't add romcoms, thank god. It's really tough to choose. If I absolutely had to choose one, I think it would be thriller.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

It seems like everyone took the movie angle so I'll answer that as well. I'm not really into movies but the ones I enjoyed most in the past would be either Horror or Action I guess. I feel like there's a lot of overlap between some of these? Most Crime flicks could be considered Action as well, right?

P.S. what is the Thriller genre? I see novels and films designated as 'thrillers', does that mean that they are made to be intentionally more thrilling than other movies? What stops a Crime movie with lots of Action from being a Thriller and how would you know?

    For Video Games:

JRPGs. I'll play tons of other stuff but 90% of my lifetime game hours have been on JRPGs with a large portion of the remaining 10% going to WW2 shooters. I still enjoy the odd rhythm game, fishing game, and character action game. I was really into Project DIVA F, Project DIVA Future Tone and crossbeats REV. SUNRISE for a time.

I don't really read novels like I used to, but since I've had a 2 hour round-trip commute for the past year and a half I've knocked out a lot of audiobooks. I like Stephen King's novels and short stories although I strongly disagree with the guy's politics. I just finished Battle Royale a week ago. I'm starting on Ring now. No...not Lord of the Rings, and it's not a book about those Smart Doorbells either, but rather the book that "The Ring" is based on. It's cool to me that in the novel the Ring curse is biological in nature. It comes from a virus and I almost feel like the author and the author of Parasite Eve must have been sharing notes. Very similar premise.

Genre-wise I'd say horror, but mystery and suspense too? Are those genres?

What it boils down to is this: There are 2 reasons I will get into a piece of media. 1. I can relax while enjoying it. This is where JRPGs come in because they are well within my comfort zone and I can pretty much turn my brain off after work & dealing with my wife while I play.
    2. It does something to subvert expectations. NieR is a perfect example. I don't normally play 3rd person action games (and if you play it you'll know why this one quickly calmed my trepidation) but damn the story and characters are all so fresh. There's nothing else like it. Yoko Taro's work flies in the face of everything you know about the way a story is supposed to go and I love it.

Action, adventure, scifi, and fantasy have always been my go to. I watch comedies every so often. Avoid horror because it terrifies me. Never really been a fan of drama/thriller with the exception of some films like Knives Out.
