Thread: Mr. Robot

I started watching this series last week with my husband and I loved it! If you have not watched it, I highly recommend it. It is about a man who has schizophrenia that also is an expert hacker. It is really wild and out there at times. Has a good mix of characters as well. If you have Amazon Prime you can watch it on there for free. The final season isn't out year, it will only be 4 seasons total so not a long series but worth it. Most episodes are about 47 minutes long and others are just over an hour.

I am the "computer guy" at my workplace and about 2 years ago my boss was always bugging me to watch this show, so much so that it turned me off to it forever. Then again, there is no way I could set aside 4 seasons worth of 47-60+ minute episodes these days so it's likely a moot point. I believe you that it's a good show, it's just been poisoned for me.

Season 4 is the last season. Wait about a year or so after that one is done when no one is bugging you about it, then watch it. It is one of those series that messes with your mind. Like you really have to pay attention to small details to catch some stuff. The plot twists alone are so well done, I have already put this in my top 5 for tv series.

My goodness... The latest episode in season 4... number 7... HOLY CRAP. It is the best episode of anything I have ever watched. It was like watching poetry, music, art, everything. It is getting a 10/10 rating and will likely be one of the highest-rated episodes of all time in terms of TV series.

Great show, Rami Malek and Christian Slater are excellent in their roles.

One of my favorite things about this series is how unsettling it is. There's never a dull moment or any down time; the characters express a constant sense of urgency which keeps you on edge, and even in the show's quieter moments, you know something bad is around the corner. I also have to give credit to whoever does the lighting -- the way the show uses shadows and colored light to dictate mood is impressive. I haven't gotten around to watching the latest season, but given all the praise, I might have to pick it up again.

Since you like Mr. Robot, do yourself a huge favor and check out a show called Barry. I might have mentioned it on here before, but it's about an ex-military assassin who decides to give up his life of crime in favor of becoming an actor. It's a dark comedy, and it's fantastic. Similar visual style to Mr. Robot, with an equally paranoid and morally-skewed protagonist.



It also has Northern Hollywood Hank, a metrosexual Russian gang leader with alopecia who just might be the best character on any show ever. Check it out.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Robot. I'm not completely in the loop when it comes to new seasons of TV shows, so I had no idea Mr. Robot got another! I watched it all the way (that was up to the third I believe) two years ago and didn't think it'd get a new season. (Sadly often the case.) That's good to know. The problem I face is that when it's been two or more years since I last watched a show, I feel the need to watch it again from the beginning. Try that with Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead. (Come to think of it, I got sidetracked and stalled my Game of Thrones rewatch about 2/3 in during June. Since everyone's saying the final season sucks, I'm conflicted about whether I should persevere, even if only for the sake of closure!)

I liked the dark side to Mr. Robot too. (That poor cat. ) So I'm more than happy to restart that show, maybe before the end of the year. I'd already seen Elliot's actor in 24 so I knew from the get-go that he's enough of a weirdo to fit the role, lol.

Oh hey, look, Zem is complaining about live action again. In all seriousness Zemekis, you really shouldn't let yourself get put off watching a show for trivial reasons like that. I found the Game of Thrones "fandom" a bit annoying, but when I gave it a chance it was an overall decent show. Not consistently great by any means but certainly worth a watch. But getting discouraged from watching Mr. Robot because of one guy? Because of a lack of time, that's fair enough, but forever? You've gotta be kidding me.

I'll check out Barry in the near future for sure.

As for watching Mr. Robot again, you will want to if you have had that amount of time between the show. I binged the first 3 seasons with my husband and this was earlier this year and we were both confused when season 4 started. There is a lot of details you forget. We plan on watching it all from the start once season 4 is over just because we know more about the characters now and past episodes will tell a deeper story.

But I'm not (this time), it was about my boss ruining the show for me. I didn't say anything about live action. I even said that I believe it's a good show. Still never gonna watch it because there's zero chance it will make me feel anything. Somehow when I share that, it makes people think they can push extra hard to make me see how good it is from their point of view. I appreciate that you guys & my coworkers care enough that you want me to enjoy the things you enjoy, but it's not for me.

I don't want to derail this any further because this is a thread for people who have watched it/enjoy it.

Unfortunately not. It was that annoying to me having it pushed for weeks and not being able to say anything because it was my boss. Then again, I'd look for any excuse to not watch a TV show. I don't have the time either, these same people pushing me to watch TV shows keep me late at work. I don't know what they expect of me, that I'll just spend 24 hours per day doing what they want...i guess?
