    The Simpsons

I used to watch this a lot as a kid and recently I started re-watching them all. I'm having a blast. I remember when I was a young (maybe seven or eight) boy. Some nights I didn't get to watch the show as my dad got home from work at 7PM—exactly when the show broadcast on Sky One (and we didn't have many other channels)—and I was sent to bed. If I was lucky and he was delayed by traffic sometimes I was able to catch an episode, but fortunately a couple of years later I was able to stay up later and it often aired at earlier time slots. I watched it all the time.

This was way back before the seemingly much-hated modern Simpsons so I often watched the first few seasons. Re-watching them all I almost remember every detail which is quite amazing (given my shoddy memory), and it goes to show what a fantastic show it is/was. I haven't really watched any of the newer episodes, even from the past decade. I grew a little tired when they started involving more celebrities and half-baked plots. I'll still probably give 'em a try when I finally reach that point.

So what are the new episodes like? Do you still watch The Simpsons, or are you just a fan of the classics like me? Was the show amongst your favourites throughout your childhood? And do you feel there's still hope for The Simpsons, or did it descend into nothingness a long time ago?

I watched the Simpsons back in the early 90's and once in awhile on channel FXX during their Simpsons marathons. Any of the episodes from season 1 to about season 9 are pretty good to this day. From what a lot of people point out is the episode where Principal Skinner reveals that he's not really Skinner, but Armin Tamzarian in "The Principal and the Pauper" is where the show "jumped the shark". And it seems pretty valid being the story quality started dropping and relying too much on dated pop culture references.
We are all insane, we just act normal for the sake of others.

I've never been a huge fan, but I enjoyed the episodes that I've seen. Funny thing, when I was a kid when it first aired, I never got around to see it since my parents didn't have cable at the time. A lot of my exposure to the Simpsons was through video games like Bart's Nightmare, Bartman and that Konami arcade game. I haven't been keeping up with the new episodes but supposedly it's really become a shadow of it's former self.

With that being said, I always loved the episode where Homer buys a gun

Gunshop owner: Woah there, you can't have this gun yet. We have to do a 5 day background check

Homer: 5 days? But I'm mad now!

I used to be a big fan of the Simpsons when it was in its prime. I watched a good amount of episodes. I also played a LOT of Simpsons Road Rage, which was quite literally a clone of Crazy Taxi lol.

And, of course, everyone loves the Spider-Pig line
    "Spider Pig, Spider Pig
Does whatever a Spider Pig does
    Can he swing
    from a web
    No he can't
    He's a pig
    Look ooooouuuut
    He is a spider pig."

There was a marathon on FXX I believe the channel was not too long ago. The first one they ran I had my TV on for the whole entire thing (unless I was sleeping). I just had it on all day. Sometimes I wouldn't even be watching it. I swear it is like time froze. It was like a 12 day marathon I think and it was the longest 12 days I have ever experienced LOL I'm not saying this in a bad way but I think it tapped into my childhood senses and you know how time feels longer when you are younger? Yeah I got that feeling. Was pretty cool.

With that being said, I am not big on the newer episodes. I have given them a chance and just can't get in to them. I do watch the Halloween special every year without fail though. I Loooooooooove those!

I'm a huge Simpsons fan in the respect that I grew up with it and even stayed through to the movie. By 2008's Halloween special, I dropped off. It just didn't feel the same as it used to after that Treehouse of Horror.

As for my favorite seasons, 1 thru 9 are obvious, 10 and 11 are eh, 12 and 13 are just horrible, it picked back up in Season 14 thru to the movie so it had my attention then. After the movie, as I said, it just kinda dropped back off into mediocrity. The show still holds true to this day and age.

I did see a newer episode where they did a flashback to Bart and Lisa's childhood, and finally they drove home the floating timeline aspect with a line Marge dropped.
"The President at the time was the President, and the popular band at the time was all the rage." Good, we can focus on the flashback story, although the flashback doesn't feel as organic or even like a flashback anymore with that statement being said. I don't know, generally I feel as though they lost their way even before the movie. Just trying too hard to stay relevant to today's audience who's just moved on to something else, like South Park or Bob's Burgers.
