Thread: YouTube chefs you enjoy?

While this is not exactly TV or movie-related, it is still something one can sit down and watch so I count it in this kind of category. I wasn't sure where else to put it on the forum either. This seems to fit best!

Anyways, I have grown to enjoy some cooking channels I have found on YouTube. The people cooking are witty, funny, and entertaining and I enjoy learning new things about food I may not have known before. I always recommend my main three I watch to anyone who is into this kind channel: Sam the Cooking Guy, Joshua Weissman, and Binging with Babish.







If you enjoy these kinds of channels, what are some you would recommend?

I like Babish's stuff. He's definitely refined his formula over the years. He has good intonation, his timing is great, and he has some damn good recreations.

Now this guy isnt a chef, he's a mixologist (actually, he isnt trained and doesnt call himself one like Babslish doesnt call himself a chef), but what's a good meal without a good cocktail?
Howtodrink is one of my favorite channels because he has a good mix of humor (usually in text form), and goes into a good amount of detail about the drink. It's a pretty educational channel when it comes to liquor.

I'll check out his stuff. I may not drink but I enjoy seeing what people can do with different ingredients. Him doing something from Archer is a huge bonus. Love that show. Still waiting on the last season to come out. The stupid virus ruined a lot.

There is one chef I agree with 100%

I was watching a lot of these types of videos when I was on a diet that really limited my food choices. So it seemed completely counter-intuitive to watch what was also food porn while avoiding any of the food in the videos, but strangely it sort of took my mind off wanting to indulge in delicious food. I have no idea how that worked but it kind of did.

When I started keto I was watching a lot of cooking channels that featured creative ways to enjoy food that a very low-carb diet isn't supposed to allow. A lot of people have come up with really creative ways to make food alternatives. A good channel I liked was Headbanger's Kitchen:



Gradually I stopped watching the videos. It's not like I lost interest because of the content. It's more that I'm a really bad cook and acknowledge that I wouldn't be able to produce the majority of what's shown in the videos. Still, it was fun at times.

How has the keto diet treating you. I always hear people going on and on about it. I had success with the slow-carb diet getting healthier and losing weight but a lot of these diets leave me drained of energy. I am just cutting back my calories and moving more now. Seems to be working.

And don't feel bad, I suck at cooking too. I have maybe like 10 things I can do good and that is about it. I'd like to blame my oven/stove but we all know deep down this would be a lie. LOL

It was going pretty well for some time but as soon as the coronavirus came about I dropped it. It was practically impossible to continue it as it was not only very difficult to find most food, but the food I could find didn't include the keto foods I'd eat. My butcher is back as normal now though. I could probably get back onto keto at any time soon but I'd rather go through the months' worth of food I have available and maybe save some money. It seems that practically nobody has been following a diet over the past few months.

Keto sort of had the inverse effect. I do enjoy high-carb foods (of course including soda, I'm not going onto diet soda again so it'll be straight to water) but every time I've gone on keto I've found that after the initial keto flu it feels like a fog has been cleared. Lately I've been groggy as hell most mornings but I'm also high-carb. When I'm not on keto I find myself relying on caffeine.

Heh, ten isn't too bad! I rarely follow any sort of recipe to cook. Grill, fry, slow-cook, put in oven... I think that's the extent of my abilities. I enjoy what I cook for myself but I'd never cook for others because I can't do anything fancy.

The more I look into food and how the human body reacts to different things, the more it fascinates me. Like carbs, in general, aren't bad so long as we are being active the days we eat them. When we aren't they slow everything down and that is likely why you feel more tired when you do eat them. I think I was going through a detox phase when I did the slow carb diet as I was very, very tired on it. I found myself napping sometimes 3 times a day. That and I don't think I was getting enough calories. I through back to when I was on it and I think I was eating maybe 800 calories a day so that wouldn't help with energy levels at all.
