    6 Pokemon Team (Generation 1 & 2)

By generation 1 & 2, I mean only Pokemon that were present in the Gameboy era, i.e. Red/Blue/Yellow and Gold/Silver/Crystal.

    Mine would have to be:

Charizard, Quagsire, Celebi, Lanturn, Gengar, Heracross

I like to have as many dual types as possible in my team, to maximize diversity and keep a balance. I'm not an expert though, and I'm sure there are some holes in that team, or things that could be changed ever so slightly.

Lanturn and Quagsire are particular favorites. When doing a Monotype team, I usually pick Water. Their second types are Electric and Ground respectively, so it makes it harder to exploit the weaknesses that the water type normally has.

    So yeah, what's your 6?

    RE: 6 Pokemon Team (Generation 1 & 2)

This is taking me back over twelve years ago, so I can't remember totally clearly what my teams consisted of. And since I haven't played Pokémon seriously since I was a kid, I'm not really clued up on what would make a perfect team. I think as a kid however, I perhaps went with...

Charizard, Tyranitar, Lugia, Mewtwo, Suicune, Skarmory

Or something like that. Very foggy memory. I liked the psychic type a lot. For the images, quote me (or lloyd) and copy the code then go to a site like this one and scroll to the bottom to find the sprites. I used the Crystal sprites. Copy the image URL, replace the images, pretty simple.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

    RE: 6 Pokemon Team (Generation 1 & 2)

Usually I just end up going with my favorites in most cases but if I had to build myself and ideal team then I would choose the following:

Pidgeot, Arcanine, Feraligatr, Steelix, Umbreon, Hitmonlee

Pidgeot: Out of the 256 pokemon I could choose from, Pidgeot is my number one favorite pokemon. Its one of the first evolution chains you can get, its fast, it can learn fly, and just imagining flying on this giant bird myself just seems awesome! I use flying types to get my way through the grass and fighting gyms, and I just love using quick attack. Can become quite a powerful move in a close match.

Arcanine: Got to have a fire type of course. Granted pidgeot would hold up fine against grass but having a fire type would be great help against ghost, and the rare steel type. When it comes to stats, speed is my favorite. And Arcanine definitely fits that category with a base speed of 95. Pidgeot's is 91. Something that I didn't know and found interesting is that arcanine is actually labeled as a legendary.

Feraligatr: I needed a water type for the rock, fire gyms, and a backup for ghost so I chose feraligatr for that job. There isn't any super reason I chose this one other than the fact that this is one of my more favorite evolution chains. Totodile is cool and when it gets to its final form it evolves into a badass haha.

Steelix: I chose steelix because of its incredible defense. When I need a pokemon to switch to, to buy me some time and dish out some damage in the process then steelix is my answer!

Umbreon: There are so many eevee evolutions to choose from, but umbreon drew the most interest. Its a beautiful creature and having a dark type would be helpful against psychic and ghost types.

Hitmonlee: Then there's hitmonlee. Hitmonlee is my favorite fighting type and would be one I would choose against rock, and don't ask me why but I mostly use fighting types against electric. It's always worked out for me.

    RE: 6 Pokemon Team (Generation 1 & 2)

    My 6? Hmm:

Arcanine, Pikachu, Articuno, Moltres, Zapdo, Mewtwo

I stick to old school Pokemon, I ended at Gold but reverted and stayed at Yellow because to me, that's my personal favorite. Arcanine is my favorite Pokemon by far and his fire damage is a beast as well as his stats even though he isn't a Legendary Pokemon(though he should be). The Legendary Birds because they have the standard elements but with flying as well so it gives them an advantage, plus their skills make them deadly. Pikachu because it's Yellow version! How could you not have Pikachu in your party?!?! And Mewtwo obviously because he is a powerhouse and wrecks havoc with the physic skills.

    RE: 6 Pokemon Team (Generation 1 & 2)

Typhlosion, Kabutops, Alakazam, Dragonair, Raichu, Houndoom

Now, let's talk about these pokemon shall we?

First off this group of 6 is outstandingly good at taking on anything that comes near it. Why?

Typhlosion is the Fire Starter pokemon Cyndaquil. The reason Typhlosion's here is to help nail grass types and bug types. This pokemon is also very good at taking on psychics and fighting types.

Kabutops is used to help dispatch Water types, Electric types and Dark types. But wait, Kabutops is a Rock pokemon isn't he? Yes he is, but Kabuto learns Absorb and Kabutops can learn Giga Drain. This also means that Kabutops can take on Rock and Ground types.

Alakazam comes up next and is our favourite for dealing with Ghosts, Fighting, Bug, Poison and other Psychics. How is this possible? There's a TM that teaches Shadow Ball. Shadow Ball is a ghost move which enables the Psychic super effectivness. Everything else is weak to Psychic already.

Dragonair, our own Anti-Dragon. Since the only weakness for a Dragon Type is another Dragon Type, it makes sense to have our own. Fire, Water and Grass are ineffective against a dragon type and the fact that it can learn Surf and Blizzard helps take out Grass, Fire, Rock and Ground types.

Raichu's there to eliminate Flying and Water types whilst also helping to hurt anything else it can.

Houndoom's there as the mainstay against other Dark types. The fire side does normal damage to the enemy whilst dark attacks incoming do less.

The general theme of this group is to utterly smash the face of ANYTHING that tries to walk up to it. The only thing that can't be absolutely ripped in half are Normal types although the sheer damage that Typhlosion can do fixes that problem.

Fighting through Aliens, Robots, Insane sick people, demons, plants, dragons, fish, squids, jellyfish and more for the good of the forum!

When I play a game, I usually want to see lethal amounts of death and destructive amounts of ruination.

    RE: 6 Pokemon Team (Generation 1 & 2)

They are some pretty amazing teams showing up in this thread, an actual battle between them would prove quite epic.

@Gene, regarding Arcanine it is actually labeled as a legendary species but not a legendary pokemon. I'm not sure what logic they use to divide the two.. :|

Yeah I never understood that but I am actually playing on and off still of my Pokemon Yellow on the Gameboy. I just know that for not being a "Legendary Pokemon" he has some of the highest stats in regards to the "normal Pokemon". But he's still Legendary in my book damnit!

    RE: 6 Pokemon Team (Generation 1 & 2)

Very nice I wish I still had my older older games, I lost them, at the moment I can only play heartgold which is basically a remastered gold version. No new pokemon still the good old ones. And he does and on that note I agree, arcanine is pretty amazing! >:]

    RE: 6 Pokemon Team (Generation 1 & 2)

I actually started playing Pokémon Blue again last night on my phone. I have the orientation set so it's similar to a Game Boy. It feels just like old times on my first, original brick Game Boy.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
