    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Thoughts so far? I'm playing the PC version and I'm about two hours into the game. The ability to use a sword and magic at the same time, or to dual-wield weapons is certainly interesting. I also like the new levelling/perk system. Despite my system being able to run it with high settings, I wasn't quite as impressed with it as the gameplay videos, and certainly not as impressed as I was when I first played Oblivion.

Though we must remember, Oblivion was incredible for its time (close to six years ago!) as an early current gen game. Skyrim is a late current gen game and is best utilising PC hardware without compromising the engine's compatibility with consoles. Speaking of the engine, I'm sure we'll be hearing about a new Fallout in the near future.

I've not fought a dragon yet. I look forward to that.

RE: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I'm really enjoying it so far. I wandered off from the main quest immediately after the tutorial to go exploring. Being attacked by wolves all the damn time can be a little tedious, but it's still fun to go off the tracks and in to the wilderness.

I'm still getting used to the combat. It feels like there's a lot of delay when making an attack and blocking. It's a lot easier to get killed this time round.

I have mixed feelings about the graphics. The colours leave a lot to be desired at times. In some cases, villages almost look to be completely black and white, and it's almost always too dark. But if you go out in to certain forests during the day, it can be ultra-vibrant. not dissimilar to the Shivering Isles.

I still think I prefer Oblivion, but there's no going back at this point.

    One word; Desensitised.

That's probably gonna cause a lot of the issues that you'll find. You're expecting Skyrim to do what Oblivion did on it's launch.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure I raised a few of Lloyd's things with you Mantis over steam just by watching the video with the Wyvern in it.

Edit: Note; I have just found out Spears weren't included in Skyrim. I am now severely disappointed with Bethesda.

Got myself a home, a wife... Think I'm living the good life.

...and the thrill from fighting a Dragon! Music sets the tone; the villagers come to help as all hell breaks loose.

RE: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Heh, nice. I think I have nearly two thousand gold. I'll need five thousand if I want a house, and a wife would probably be a bigger financial drain. Plus, I have this lady guard who is helping me. But instead of enjoying exploring the nice green fields, I've had to hike up this huge snowy mountain and overcome quite a few obstacles to meet a few wizards. (Something about this sounds familiar.)

Though I'm finding dual-wielding useful, I'm still very fond of huge, two-handed swords.

Yeah, that's the lady. Is she officially your wife or have you just decided this? Well, time to enter the world of Skyrim again and go down the mountain. I suppose that's simple. I just wish the NPC pathfinding was much more greatly improved.

This game has consumed me... I'm currently lvl 17 Redguard, sitting on a good 12,000 gold, and slain at-least 5 dragons. The only gripe I have is that some textures could look better but overall I'm absolutely in love with this game. Probably one of my favorite additions is the smithing. I have a companion with full (expertise) dwarven armor that I made for her ^^ And I'm feeling pretty comfortable with my 251 armor rating (consisting of orcish and dwarven). My build I'm working on is heavy armor axe and shield warrior. I can tell you now, its working out amazingly. I've already pulled two all nighters with this game. Its 5:37am here now. Time to get some sleep

RE: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Don't complete it too quickly! Yeah, some of the graphics leave a lot to be desired. For example, a lot of the noses in the game look like something from Minecraft, but apparently there's a mod to fix that for the PC version which I play, so I'll have to look into this. The game gives a whole new meaning to blocked nose. O_o

Skyrim will have to go down in Outlaw Star UK history as an epidemic that slowed forum activity to a crawl. Then again, I predict plenty of internet bandwidth has decreased.
