    CoD alternative?

I am looking for an online FPS that is like CoD but not CoD. lol

I tried getting in to CS:GO and did not like it. I want to be able to use a controller. Oh! And it needs to be available on PC. I am not sure what to go with. A lot of the ones recommended have dead communities now so I am struggling to find something. I thought it was worth asking on here since someone may know of something.

I played CoD games from 06 and stopped when they released Ghosts. I bought the game, played it, and after a few updates the game was just ruined for me. After that, I just stopped buying their games. I do miss the online play though. I really enjoyed SD, TDM, and all that. I even enjoyed the Zombie modes on Black Ops 1 and 2. The third one just did not appeal to me outside of Zombies so I didn't bother with it. Was not worth the cost.

Do people still play Goldeneye: Source?

It's a free mod on PC and loads of fun.
    Life is demanding, without understanding.

When I'm looking to get my 'realistic military FPS' fix I usually go with Battlefield, since it's just such an enjoyable game to mess around in. Huge scale maps, 64 players at a time, vehicles... it's good fun, you should be able to get Battlefield 4 for a reasonable price at this point. I'm not interested in the WW1 setting (especially not with the attitude EA has taken with it) so I haven't tried Battlefield 1.

I was going to give Battlefield a go but it just feels too complex to me. I played it at a friend's house and I just couldn't get in to it. I just want a FPS I can pick up and enjoy in short bursts. I am sure that game is great for people who are really into team work and such but since I play on my own most of the time, it wouldn't be a good option for me.

I play the PC version of the original Halo every so often. It's not on sale anymore so it's a bit of a grey area, but you can find the Custom Edition quite easily. (You'd want this version as it's the one people play.) A lot of people still play it. In fact, the server list is packed all the time. Unlike CoD it's just a fun game you don't take too seriously and there's no screaming kids either. Plus, as the name suggests lots of fun custom maps. One of the best things is the single player mods. Just watch this:

There's a game I played called Combat Arms. I don't play much of it anymore but what I played was pretty fun. Check out some footage and see if it's something you might be interested.

Thanks both of you, I will check those out. I mean as long at they have decently active services hosting multiplayer, I am all for it. This one game i nearly got... I can't remember what it was called, but they were using a backdoor anti-cheat software and that is something I will NEVER put on my PC. It makes the whole thing way to vulnerable so it was quite sad to see that. I nearly got the game too. I will have to remember what it was called. Looked just like the older CoD games I really loved.

I did play Halo 3 and liked it but was always partial to CoD.

I used to play Call of Duty but it's just got way too futuristic for me. I mean I like some of the things that they have in terms of singleplayer. But playing online with the majority of people being under 16s jumping around using their boosters, it just gets annoying. Battlefield is the best alternative right now I would say. It is a lot better than COD. Try out Battlefield One and I promise you that you won't regret it, it's a great game. It has good graphics, amazing gameplay and you can literally play it for hours without getting bored. If you haven't, try Battlefield 4 as well. Now that was a proper first person shooter.
