    Console suggestions?

After serious thought, and possibly a symptom of cabin-fever with the quarantine, I am seriously considering doing something I said I would not do: Buy a new game console. YouTube has some new gaming service (looks similar to Steam(?) and thinking about that, too. But just thinking of consoles...any suggestions? Nothing is out of the question, though it may be beyond my pay grade. I am asking for suggestions because the last gaming system I bought was ColecoVision. If you have seen the anime "High Score Girl", all of the 'retro-game' moments gave that eerie feeling just how long I've been out of the loop. It also gave nostalgia for classic arcade days, for the show was spot-on there!

The only console I would recommend right now is Switch considered the other two will be getting replaced soon with new models for next-gen console gaming. I don't have any myself, I just play games through Steam.

I game on a "console", I guess. Steam is three things to me. Firstly of course it's a PC platform for PC games. I mean games that would be very difficult to play on a console. It's also a console because I have it connected to my Steam Link in another room. It behaves exactly like a console with the full dashboard of modern consoles and full controller support. I can also use services like YouTube if I wish.

It's also a portable handheld that supports thousands of games from my library when I use this baby:

I only really play one real console which is my classic Xbox. I have so many games on it. Practically every retro game (except the really obscure platforms) up to the DS's generation and every original Xbox game ever released including English translations of Japanese exclusives. So I'd find it hard to advise you on what console to get. I do have an Xbox One which I use nearly every day but I only use it for YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video and Plex.

Which YouTube gaming service are you speaking of? I only know of one and it was dead in the water five years ago. Anyways, while I can't say that I can give you valid advice on modern consoles, if you're a big fan of retro games I can't recommend an original Xbox more. Not only are they really cheap, with basic computer know-how they're also very easy to mod. You can achieve similar results with consoles like the Wii U, but I've always preferred the original Xbox. You can even use it in high definition.
