    Is DOOM worth playing?

I have been considering getting it on Steam. Everyone I talk to says the game is amazing. I believe it came out last May so it will be almost a year old. It is a remake but from what I have seen, it is a really good remake. I never played the original though so I am not sure how the story itself goes. I am mainly interested in the multi-player myself.

Anyways... Anyone on here play it? Do you enjoy it?

I was in the same boat as you. Never played the original (still haven't unfortunately) but it is a damn good game. The multiplayer isn't that enticing to be honest. If you were in it for multiplayer I'd hold off. The single player is where it is at but the story is very simple and leaves some questions that yearn to be answered.

The run and gun play style is rewarding, especially when you pull off finishers to kill monsters to gain more ammo or health. It's almost a necessity to do melee finishers on harder difficulties to save your ass with getting more health drops.

I recommend it, but only if you are open to an intense and crazy first person shooter play style. Multiplayer I honestly haven't touched but I haven't heard anything riveting about it. It might be fun. I'd say if it's on sale and you can get it cheap, give it a try.

*Points to avatar* Take one guess.

I'm a guy who grew up on old school first person shooters, Doom 1 and 2 included. So take it from me when I say that it's the best mainstream AAA FPS to come out in years. There is no regenerative health or taking cover. You just move, circle strafe and fill the enemy full of lead. Much like in the classic dooms, some guns work better against certain types of enemies than others so you have to constantly switch between weapons while fighting. There is even a bit of strategizing with the chainsaw, since it's a one hit kill weapon that can replenish your ammo, but bigger enemies require more fuel so you have to choose your chainsaw kills wisely. The level design is nice and maze like, though not as complex as the originals. Still, the levels are big enough to encourage exploration and to find secrets that can upgrade your abilities. The guns look and sound great, the graphics look good and it all runs on a smooth 60 frames per second.

As for multiplayer, to be honest, I've always been a single player kind of guy so I don't really touch multiplayer. I did play the multiplayer betas prior to release and they were fun, though I can understand some classic FPS fans being turned off since it does have elements from more modern shooters. I've heard they added a classical style deathmatch mode that it supposed to be fun, though I haven't played it myself. There was an update that added a arcade mode where you can play the single player campaign to get points on a leader board. Played a little bit of it and found it fun.

You're enjoyment of this game is dependent of if you like your games to be adrenaline pumping experiences. As a guy who loves an intense experience and got fed up with aim down sights and linear, cinematic shooters that have plagued gaming today, I could not be happier. It is a incredibly awesome experience. Of course, being an old school FPS lover, your mileage may vary but I would say it's a lot of fun and to play it if you get a chance.

Don't buy it for the multiplayer, don't even buy it for the story. You are the Doom Marine, demons are invading... get out there and FUCK THEM UP. If the idea of ripping out a demon's tooth and slitting its throat with it or jamming it into its eye while heavy metal dubstep drones on in the background sounds like a good time, you need to play DOOM. It's brutal and savage, and god damn it gets your heart pumping.

I've been playing through it last week, definitely the most fun I've had with a AAA game in a long time. Highly recommended.
