Evo Japan Stream Shut Down Due to T&A

A little late to the party on this one (several weeks late, in fact), but here's a quick rundown as far as I understand things:
On the EVO Japan livestream segment for Dead or Alive 6 they had 2 Japanese Gravure models presenting the game on stage. As far as I can tell, they weren't being forced to do this and were just joking around having a good time: YouTube

...until the stream was cut at the end of that scene due to not matching EVO's "core values".

Just to point out, when I was making this thread, there were already 3 others regarding censorship of the (arguable) over-sexualization of females in the gaming industry, whether they be real or digital. I'm not sure what message is being sent these days...is it that women can wear what they want and do what they want, or is it that they are so fragile and their bodies are so disgusting that we must censor them?

The girls are models. Their JOB is to be looked at. Let the poor girls bounce their titties and collect a goddamn paycheck.

As an added bonus, the footage they switched the stream over to was a Mortal Kombat advertisement that had someone getting their face ripped off. In EVO's mind it is better for you to watch someone have their face peeled from their skull rather than have to look at a woman.

This is pathetic. I'm not sure how this all works since for one I rarely watch streams. Hmm...

What's with the grammar? Go home EVO, you're drunk.

So it's some kind of international e-sports event, headquartered in the United States. I guess that's where the problem lies. They held this event in Japan, Japanese things happened and they cut the stream because of potential (didn't happen) hurt fee-fees? I'm sick of this shit. When I talk about this kind of thing here I usually compare sex appeal to blood and guts, and how it's ridiculous that we celebrate extreme violence on TV (e.g. The Walking Dead) and video games (e.g. Mortal Kombat), but slapping a clothed ass is oh-so-profane.

Chuckled at your mention of it cutting to Mortal Kombat. Yeah, these kinds of threads keep popping up but it's no coincidence. We live in a society of wet blankets. It's no wonder that Asians are laughing at us, even China for god's sake.

I haven't been following this too much but yeah, from what I've read it's ridiculous. They said in the tweet that it's to protect the integrity of it's brand. How ultra-violence doesn't hurt the brand but T&A does I couldn't tell you. It just seems to be an effort to come across as "We don't want anything gross that would offend certain demographics". Needless to say, this decision probably has hurt them more than it helped.

Well i'm glad that the 3 responses have been in strong agreement (although I expected that). Starting with your last point, we (the West, Americans in particular) are wet blankets about sexuality in media, but REALLY okay with violence. I remember for some years American video games had to be censored for violence in Germany, and in Japan even the mention of a gun is enough to mindbreak someone. I don't know which is worse and I don't really care because I think censoring either one is dumb as shit.

EVO is a fighting game tournament held in Las Vegas that has been the defacto World Championship event for fighting games for many years. They finally opened up a branch in Japan (this was its first year), and because the Japanese have different sensibilities, they produced a different show with different advertising methods (ones I prefer. I'll take a phat ass over EP!C VI0LENC3 anyday) which I guess triggered the US-based organizers or something. Twitch is a subsidiary of Amazon which has its HQ in Seattle which is as liberal (aka censorship) as California so I guess that's how this happened.

The take away from all of this is that I've never watched EVO and now I never will.

So wait... People are upset over models doing their jobs?

Or people are upset that video games, you know... not reality based simulations... are not using "realistic" female bodies?

I can't keep up with this non-sense anymore. If you are going to attack video games you are going to have to attack Disney, thousands of cartoons, comic books, and even childrens/teen books and movies.
