    No Man's Sky

Much more honest trailer above. So, No Man's Sky, or One Man's Lie? This is exactly why I never board the hype train. People have spent a lot of money on this game, only to be massively disappointed. Granted, there are some who seem to enjoy it, but I can't see myself being one of them, despite not having played the game yet. (And I doubt I will unless it's massively discounted. Maybe in 2020.)

One man alerted the advertising regulations board here in the UK about the false advertising, some of which is clearly seen in the video above. The game's main creator, Sean Murray, clearly lied about lots of things, such as heavily implying the game has a full multiplayer mode when the multiplayer is almost nonexistent. All I hear about is the ability to name planets, and there are billions of them so it's unlikely people will even see your names. I'd rather pay less for space on the moon in real-life. (It's debated how much of a scam this is, but if it's a scam, is it any different to No Man's Sky?)

What are your thoughts on the game and its present situation? False advertising is taken very seriously here in the UK, so we'll have to wait and see whether this means Goodbye Games for Hello Games.

I never boarded the hype train for the same reasons as you, and thank god we didn't!

Even with those 'promises' intact, No Man's Sky always felt like another typical randomly generated sandbox with no sense of purpose or objective. The only difference with this one is the whole 'space' gimmick. Yeah, you can fly a ship arround and discover MILLIONS! of different planets, but how is that any different from Minecraft? It's the same old shit, just with a different coat of paint, and far less enjoyable.

Minecraft at least has this whole creative layer that allows players to create whatever they can imagi--

    ...Nevermind.

No Man's Sky lets you... name shit, and fill up gauges so you don't die... only so you can carry on naming shit. What a boring experience, especially once the whole 'OMG SO MANY PLANETS' novelty wears off.

False advertising isn't nearly as serious a concern here in the US- or at least, my part of the US. I've heard only a bit about No Man's Sky, in general- but it looked to me, at the time, like an interesting game to some extent. Not one I'd pay for necessarily (because I'm cheap like that). I never actually expected much out of the 'multiplayer' concept anyway, though. Even when it was in production and the hype was just starting, a friend that was excited for it and I noted that it seemed like the multiplayer wouldn't really be likely to be major- if at all notable. Perhaps because we were already suspicious, he still enjoys the game greatly from what I'm aware.

I was interested mostly because it could be good for inspiration. Different planets with different terrains are interesting in general as a concept, and getting to name them? Well, to me, it sounds helpful for writer's block. But like Hari said- a lot of the things I was interested in it for are easily found in Minecraft. Well, outside the giant butt...
