    Pokemon Backlash?

I am late to the party on this but a lot of people are upset with Pokemon's choices for the next game titles Sword and Shield. They are limiting the Pokemon that can be used on the game to only ones they have selected. This alone has caused a lot of fans to opt-out of the game. Considering I like competitive more than the story, I am likely not going to buy it because of this. I won't rant and rave over it, it isn't a big deal to me... But for a lot of fans, they are VERY upset over it.

Do you think the fans reactions to this are taking it too far?

Pokemon? That's still a thing? IDGAF.

Actual scientific photo of me "trying" to learn the original 150 for my sister, circa 1999 (colourised).
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

I followed a bit of the controversy, not because I'm interested in playing the new generation of games, but because I'm interested in the games industry as a whole. I think fans are taking it way too far and blowing these issues out of proportion. There are 600+ pokemon (or 700+??) at this point, which obviously becomes more and more difficult to balance with each series iteration.

The aspect I side with the fans on is this: During the development of X&Y they delayed the game so they could make the pokemon models forward-compatible. So fans had to wait thorough the delay, and now one generation later that turns out to be bullshit. Also, the game's director is on record multiple times throughout the years saying that he'd never release a pokemon game without all the pokemon present because that defeats the purpose. He said this up through the development of the most recent release....then turned on it overnight. I can understand fans being salty about that but not THIS upset. Then again, to be THAT invested in Pokemon in 2019, you've got to be somewhat unstable to begin with. I like Pokemon, but I don't have that 8 year-old blind, burning passion that these 30 year olds somehow keep burning. They've gotta be on the spectrum, and I ain't talking about visible light here.

I am fine with just playing on Pokemon Showdown myself. I played Pokemon Alpha Saphire after years of not playing the games and I enjoyed it. I then got Sun and struggled to finish the story. I likely won't be getting this one just because I don't think I would enjoy it enough to justify the cost. I prefer to play competitive and given what they are doing from here on out, kinda makes it pointless to buy the games for me if I can't have access to all the mons I like to build teams with.

I honestly don't know how it is still as popular as it is. I have more fun on other games that cause a fraction of what this game does. lol
