    Shenmue

Most will know that this is a beloved Sega franchise. Did you ever get to play the games back in the day? Or if not, did you end up getting the recent HD double pack? If not, I think you should give it a try. They're great games and were ahead of their time. I played Shenmue on the Dreamcast at the time of its release and it was a favourite.

Playing that HD collection was some fantastic nostalgia, though if I've got to be honest, I only got so far into Shenmue II. From what I played I don't think it's as good as the original Shenmue but it's not far off. Now you've got the opportunity to play the Shenmue games without a Dreamcast, would you choose the PC port, given the chance? I know there are lots of PC gamers here, and the port is great.

Shenmue III on the other hand, well... everyone knows about the Epic Games fiasco. I was one of Shenmue III's backers and I, uhh... backed out, when given the chance. I wasn't happy about the deal and I'm glad I could get the refund. I won't support Epic Games, simple as that. Would I buy Shenmue III when it appears on Steam in a year's time? Sure, but in the meantime I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. It'll be discounted by then anyway.

    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

Not back in the day, rather about 5-6 years ago. The Winter before the E3 where they announced Shenmue III. I got the HD pack and played all the way through both.

Some parts are better, some are worse for sure. The 2nd game sure has more points where the story drags for no good reason, but I would argue that the high points are higher than the original's. For some reason, the part that kills a lot of playthroughs is when Ryo reaches China. To me, that was by far the best part of both games. You see Shenhua on the box art for the games, in the intro FMVs and such...but you have no clue who this bitch is. There is a segment ~1 hour long where you walk with her and talk on a scrolling background and that made the trek through games 1 and 2 worth it in my opinion. You finally get caught up to speed on so many things, it was great. Reviewers and fans apparently hated it. And to answer your question, no I would not/did not choose the PC port because I chose the PS4 release. In part because I was uncertain of whether my PC could handle Shenmue 3 when it came out, and also because I had backed Shenmue III for a PS4 version. I also wanted my Game Clear saves to carry over to Shenmue III in case there is any benefit to be had.

Good! I'm a big fan of the "vote with your wallet" mindset. While I personally didn't back out because I'm in it for the console version, I greatly respect PC players' loud outcry on the matter. I guess to put this in console terms, if they backed out of the PS4 release and said it was ONLY going to be available on Xbone, I would have backed out too. It's not a 100% perfect analogy but it's a platform I couldn't/wouldn't play Shenmue III on. And hey, if you pick it up at a discount later, then that's a bonus too!
