Which video games had you been addicted to?

Which video games had you been addicted to?

The first game I was addicted to was Counter-Strike 1.0. (FPS) It was back in the year 2000. I spent a few hours a day playing it for over half a year before I started to decrease the playing time.

Battlefield 1942 and Desert Combat mod of it (FPS) got me spent even more time. Online stats for (ALL players of the game, not just for a single server) I ranked top 200 out of at least half a million based on kill/death ratio.

Never Winter Nights (1) (RPG) multiplay had me playing for many hours a day for almost half a year.

Lineage 2 (MMO) had me played for a full year with at least 5~6 hours a day on average.

Battlefield 2 (FPS) had me killed over 100,000 people online. My kill/death ratio is over 3.7 to 1.

World of Tanks (1st and 3rd person or rather a tank) had me destroyed tens thousands of enemy tanks controlled by real players. Again, my kill/death ratio is way over 3.7 to 1.

All the games I had addicted to are multiplay. I like to play against other people.

What games were you addicted to? How much time did you spend on it?

When it comes to MMORPGs, definitely RuneScape. WoW didn't manage to grapple me too much.

As for FPS, I did have a good heavy CS period as well, especially through LAN which made it more addicting as my IRL friends were hooked too. Then with the console it was probably Call of Duty 4. I might not touch it for months but when I do so again, still just as fun as the first time.

Yeah, sometimes I can also get burnt out after played a game extensively, then I can pick it up again after a while.

I forgot to mention SimCity 3000 Unlimited, SimCity 4000, as well as Sims Online, and Sims 2. I know... but I did spend quite a bit of time on each of them too.

RE: Which video games had you been addicted to?

When I was very young, Sonic took the cake. I was mad about the series since I played the original in 1991. Then came Final Fantasy VII in 1997. I was hooked. Being just nine, at first I just wanted action so I skipped the dialogue, but soon into the game I started to realise the importance of a good story in a game and loved the story. That was the start of being a big Final Fantasy fan, spending nearly one hundred hours on my initial save, and playing many of the newer titles released and the classic titles.

Then came Pokémon. I was lucky enough to get a clunky old Game Boy for free from a relative's sister, somehow. And so for my birthday in 1999 (yeah, we got Pokémon a year later than the US, but hey, nothing changes) I got Pokémon Blue. It became a craze. I collected many Pokémon cards and watched the anime. I clocked over 600 hours of gameplay and was infuriated when somebody saved over it. When Pokémon Silver was released in the US, a couple of months after my local game store (well, at the time; it's shut down now sadly) stocked an import and it was region free, so after begging my parents, I believe I got it as a Christmas present. I felt like a god: the new Pokémon, before anybody else in school!

My interest in Pokémon started to die after the Silver version. That's probably because I was focusing on my work at secondary school, and soon after, I finally got to play Halo, my next obsession. That lasted for a good few years. I loved every aspect of Combat Evolved. I became a moderator on a popular Halo site and even started to make my own Halo game using a game making software, but I was admittedly pretty bad at it since I lacked experience. I eventually got my Xbox modded which was awesome. Since I didn't have Xbox Live (never had it in the Xbox 1 days, or an internet connection for a few years) it didn't affect me. I created my own mods and played some awesome ones created by others.

Halo 2 was released in 2004. I'll admit that I got it early thanks to the French leak. At first I enjoyed the game, but it didn't take long for me to realise it was inferior to Halo 1 in many aspects. This made me a little bitter towards the series, although I still had an interest. It didn't take long for me to lose that, though, and I left the Halo community. Since I didn't get an Xbox 360 until late 2008, I didn't even look into Halo 3 at all. I watched a trailer and my dad had an Xbox 360, but I made no request to play it and I never watched gameplay videos. It turned out that Halo 3 was a great improvement over Halo 2 and when I got my Xbox 360, I played it a lot. Still, it was a temporary obsession and I've never been as loyal to the Halo series since the first game.

That's just about it. My Halo obsession didn't surpass my current one, which obviously, is Outlaw Star. I've been hooked for just a short while on some games, but I often try and play others and don't stick to one game for long periods of time.

The game that most recently had me in its clutches and under it's complete spell was Burnout Paradise. I love pretty much aspect of this game. It got to the point where I was having dreams about Paradise City.

I still haven't finished the game as I've actually had to take breaks away from it and either stop playing games in general or find something else to play instead of that. I love that game, but I need to finish it before NFS: Whatever comes out later this year as it looks like Burnout Paradise with a new name. It's by the same developers.

I had actully only one game I was addicted to but as there were next parts of it I was addicted for more then 10 years It was the Settlers. I think I started with 1 part, then 2 and then one of the best parts: 4th. I liked 5th part as well and 6th and 7th I don't even remember playing although I've go them at home.
I could play for hours, all days long.. or nights. Mostly at the time of exam period at the university

RE: Which video games had you been addicted to?

During my childhood there have been many games I've come to know and love, mostly of the online variety (Runescape, Adventure Quest, Maplestory, etc.) but as far as "addiction" goes, I can think of my big three: Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Starcraft.

Pokemon Blue was my first video game that I could call my own back in 1998. I played that thing hours on end after finishing homework, before (and after) bedtime, in the car, and whenever I wasn't doing anything productive. I was so into Pokemon that I got Red and Yellow shortly thereafter, and I made sure to complete my Pokedex before getting Pokemon Gold in 2000. Second generation was my first and last smooth transition between Pokemon generations; I got Pokemon Ruby a year after it was released and I never really got into fourth generation until Pokemon Heart Gold about three years ago, so I only really consider myself and expert on Pokemon up to second generation since I've played both so many times. (which is how it should be... )

I played Final Fantasy I after my dad stopped playing it as regularly as he used to. I know the game's older than I am, but I still feel a good deal of nostalgia when I play it today. Even after playing through FFIV, FFVI, FFVII, FFX, Tactics, and currently FFXIII (yeah I'm a bit behind), I still don't feel that nostalgic factor than when I pop in FFI.

These two fail in comparison to Starcraft, though. My friends was playing it on a summer day in 1999 and I was wondering what the hell that game was about. I watched as he played through the campaign and I was amazed at how in-depth the plot was and how fast-paced the gameplay was. When I found out that I could actually play online with other people via Battle.net, I was hooked. I kept playing on the "Use Map Settings" games until I found out what hotkeys were and how I could use them to play even faster, and I ended up playing on the ladder for a few years until it just got way too hard for me to keep up. I think I stopped regularly playing Starcraft at that awkward time when I wanted to get better but I still wasn't sure if I wanted to commit every waking moment playing a video game. It sounded like a good idea at the time, but I quickly realized through Starcraft that gaming should only play a fraction of one's life, not everything. There are other commitments other than gaming, which is fine. I'd much rather play on a casual level for fun and "for the lulz" rather than put my fiscal stability on the line in the rewarding yet VERY stressful realm of competitive gaming.
A boy has the right to dream. There are endless possibilities stretched out before him. What awaits him down the path he will then have to choose; the boy doesn't always know. At some point the boy then becomes an adult, and learns what he was able to become. Joy and sadness will forever accompany this. He is confronted with a choice; when this happens, does he bid his past farewell in his heart? Once a boy becomes an adult, he can no longer go back to being a boy; the boy is now a man. Only one thing can be said: "A boy has the right to dream.". For those endless possibilities are stretched out before him.

We must remember...all men were once boys.

RE: Which video games had you been addicted to?

This is going to be a LONG list but these are all of the games I played constantly and some I still do!

    • Final Fantasy VII: I played this CONSTANTLY and still do, I mean really, I still play this game even now!
    • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time; Around the holiday season almost every year, I restart this game and play it over again, no joke
    • Gears of War: The reason why I got my Xbox 360 was because of this game
    • Megaman Legends: Loved this game dearly, it's a shame they never continued making more than just 2 and they canceled the 3rd one
    • Final Fantasy Tactics: my friends and I played this game together all of the time
    • Super Smash Bros. Melee: Even to this day my friends and I still play this whenever we hang out

This is by no means a full list and though many of these are my favorites this is not a full list of my FAVORITE games of all time. These are just ones I have repeatedly beaten over and over like a dead horse and still enjoy it each time I play.
