    Gilliam II's Ditched His Friends

It's time to say goodbye to One Angry Gamer and Exclusively Games. Gilliam has been posting articles from these sites a couple of times a week but I've decided to offer him and alternative and I think he likes it more.

The two aforementioned gaming sites are polar opposites in their content. One Angry Gamer places an extremely strong focus on gaming news that involves politics of some sort. On the other hand, Exclusively Games claims to completely take politics out of the equation. I decided to give both of them a try over a year ago.

What was good about One Angry Gamer was that its articles encouraged discussion. They're usually hot topics and discussion's always a good thing, right? Don't get me wrong, I'm no stranger to controversy in online discussions but as the months went on, OAG's articles seemed to be progressively lacking. It got to the point where it seemed that the only way they could get viewers was highly inflammatory headlines and article content. Sometimes it felt like articles existed only to infuriate for views.

tl;dr: They lost their way in my opinion.

As for Exclusively Games, sometimes we saw good articles. This is a site started by YouTuber Jeremy Hambly. It was created as a retaliation to sites like Kotaku. Sounds like perfection and sticking to games only is a good idea in theory. Ironically, Jeremy's YouTube content is 95% political and he doesn't even run Exclusively Games himself. He just got it started. It was crowdfunded and he promised to keep it completely free without advertisements. That is true to a point, but many of these articles were just summaries of games with affiliate links. And do you know what that is?

    I'll tell ya.

For that reason almost nobody replied to those threads. (Poor Gilliam.) So we need something discussion-worthy while not being quite as inflammatory as One Angry Gamer. Many months back, Zemekis suggested Niche Gamer. I looked into it but I wasn't so sure about it. Well, it's better than the alternatives so I'll give it a go. Seems like a generally decent gaming site. So you'll be seeing those threads by Gilliam from now on. (Unless it turns out badly.)

I can't say I'll miss it. One Angry Gamer in particular, just came across as click-baity and it's audience seem to be no better than the SJWs that see racism/sexism in everything. I remember in the comments section someone said that John Wick Chapter 3 was basically pandering to feminists or SJWs because there was a scene where a female was kind of a dick to John. Having seen the movie, I say it's hogwash as that movie is probably about as far from SJW as it can get. But yeah, the articles pretty much bitch about the same thing to the point where it just becomes tiresome.

I was actually gonna suggest Gematsu as an alternative as it's free of political bullshit and just reports the news. Not to mention...Niche Gamer kind of plagiarized them.

I didn't know they were doing that, that's super lame. At least the articles will be as good as Gematsu's! lol. Assuming that really was the work of a ghost writer that they fired, it shouldn't be an issue anymore but it'll be something to keep an eye on. Niche Gamer is funded by it's readers via Patreon and if they're just stealing articles then I don't want to give them clicks. If I hear more about it a 2nd time I'd retract my suggestion.

It was a bummer because they have done some solid content in the past. They even had AlphaOmegaSin do a comeback to review retro horror games but he hasn't done that lately. I wonder if he jumped ship because of this whole debacle? Still, I'm willing to give that site one more chance but like you Zem, if they pull shit like this again then I'm done with them.

Heh, a lot of OAG readers/commenters seem to come from the InfoWars crowds. As I've said before, I'm right-leaning, but Christ Almighty, I do know when to say that enough is enough. I read up on that Gematsu fiasco a few hours back. That's pretty lame.

I'd decided on two categories form Niche Gamer. The first one is "culture", which covers games and other topics. (In the case of an anime article, we'd have to move that thread as soon as we get the chance to moderate it.) It's worth keeping in mind that unfortunately, there have only been a couple of articles a month (on average) in that category. The other category, "rumours", isn't very popular either. Only a couple per week it seems. For these reasons it seems we may see a shortage of threads from Gilliam. Niche Gamer looks really inactive lately. The last popular news story is from a month ago.

Think I should have Gilliam ditch Niche Gamer too and swap for Gematsu? One thing I don't like about it is the lack of choice in RSS feeds. I can't have both culture and rumours like with Niche Gamer. Unless I want to choose a single game platform for news, it seems I can either have only industry news or a feed of all articles across the site. Their industry news section is good enough on its own though.

    Ok.
    I feel incredibly stupid.
I somehow didnt realize Gilliam II was a bot.
I just thought it was super weird that someone was posting the same kinds of things in the same way.
Then again, I honestly didn't pay much attention to them. I just skim them, and usually click away. Some of them are semi-interesting, but most are either about games I dont care about (like Bwttlerront II being mediocre now) or super sensationalized.
I'm pretty right leaning, but some of those articles are just...dumb.
Like the one about an openly gay Aqualad. Ok...who cares? There are countless different Aqualads, like Robin's/Nightwings.

But I'd be all for switching to Gematsu. It's always been a pretty reputable site for gaming news without much spin.

I never really cared for One Angry Gamer. To me he came across as rather boomerish, specifically when he lost his mind over Mr Ratburn marrying another man on an episode of Arthur. Like, ok? It's not a big deal...?

Anywho, I am looking forward to articles from a more reasonable gaming/anime-themed website. :-)
A boy has the right to dream. There are endless possibilities stretched out before him....

Gilliam posts two threads during the late evening on Wednesday and Friday, US time. (So four threads a week.) I think I'll change it to Gematsu ready for next time!

LOL. I'd have been pretty worried if someone was slaving away finding news stories, posting them quite regularly and not even discussing them at all!

Thanks for the feedback. It was only the sensationalist ones that people were paying any attention to. And I didn't really like that! Too bad that Exclusively Games was just boring. It's kinda difficult these days because good game journalism is so few and far between. One Angry Gamer certainly wouldn't be one of the few good sites. Some of the articles were okay, but waaay too many stupid ones for my liking.
