On the hunt for merch and friends

Names Jon, or Wolfe, or whatever. This anime got me through an abusive childhood, and to this day I love it with a passion. I hope to make lots of new friends (since I and my wife are shut ins) and hopefully some of you veterans can help me get ahold of some awesome merch since some of it is hard to come by.

Edit: will make sure to get around to updating my profile soon, please forgive the barren wasteland it is for now.

Hi Jon, welcome to OSN! If you have any questions please reach out to either Mantis or myself. Otherwise feel free to find a thread that interests you and jump in! See you around.

Hello Jon and welcome to Nexus. Nice to meet ya. It's interesting that you say that. It's not the first time that I've seen other people say that Outlaw Star helped them through some tough times. That also includes myself. I think that the overall feel-good vibe the show has can have that kind of effect on people.

I'm pretty much the "merch guy". I collected merch over a number of years and gradually found the best ways to go about it. I've taught others my methods and I don't mind sharing that information. I have been asked to make a merch guide and I did actually start doing that. I think a full guide would be at least twenty pages long and at the moment projects like the manga take priority.

Having said that, if you have any particular questions (e.g. "How to get X item" or "Where to find Y type of items") feel free to ask.

By the way, I'm sure you'll make friends here like a number of us have within this small circle. You should join us during our get-togethers which are becoming more frequent with COVID-19 and all. They're probably our friendliest pastime.

    Enjoy your stay.

Ya, it helped me through some seriously dark times. The ďa boy has a right to dreamĒ has always stuck deeply with me and the toonami bumper is still one of my faves. Iíll definitely hit you up for info on merch hunting. Iím big on art, figures, and misc. stuff like knick knacks and keychains etc. itís so hard to find stuff here in the states, and I have ZERO experience with imports and overseas. Not to mention Iíve always been a recluse so making friends with similar interests will be nice! Look forward to joining yíall!

A god way to get involved quickly is to jump into a conversation in the Clyde's Bar sub-forum or start up a game/movie/anime review thread. Both Mantis and I have threads where we post about our progress on video games.

Discussing the merits of live-action vs. anime AKA the debate that will never die.

But anywho, welcome to the boards Jon. I can't say that I had it as rough as you had but I know that the feeling of fiction and escapism helping out during a dark time. Don't be afraid to make your own topics on whatever you want or just respond to one of the threads here, though I warn some can be verbose, especially some of mine I've made recently. Still, it's good to have you around and hope to hear more from you soon.

It's something I've considered several times, but my conclusion has been that the forum's activity is mostly healthy (not bad anyway for a niche) and it may not stay that way if I create a Discord. There's also the fact that everything on here is the community's to keep indefinitely. If Discord goes away eventually, so will the messages and important information, which also goes for any free service.

tl;dr: I'd rather not put the community in the hands of a third party.
