Do you do things on impulse or like to have a plan?

When I was younger, I typically did things on an impulse. I would just go wherever and do whatever. I enjoyed surprises and liked doing new things.

As I got older, mid-twenties or so, that changed. I didn't like surprises that involved me going somewhere and I needed to have a set plan when I did go anywhere or I would not feel comfortable. This led me to do less and less.

I actually enjoy doing things at home now almost entirely. I am not sure if this is because I got used to it or what.

Do you do things on impulse or like to have a plan?

I prefer to plan out things because I get too easily distracted sometimes. If I need to make an appointment, I'll schedule it and set reminders so I don't forget. I'll set aside times of the day to work on homework, do laundry, etc, and I'll make sure to sleep at the same time each night. I like to have a routine so I don't forget or screw up something.

I hate surprises, haha. Mantis can attest to this, I meticulously plan everything out, even if it's pointless or annoying other people. Ironically, I always surround myself with people who are perpetually late or don't respect schedules. My best friend since 6th grade has never arrived at my place on time when we have a plan. He is often 2+ hours late and it drives me up the wall. I'm not good with routines, though. I never go to bed at the same time and I don't have a daily routine (coffee at 8:00, email at 8:20...nothing like that). I just like to have a plan of action for what's upcoming.

I wasn't any different when I was younger either, Ever since i've been remotely adult like 15/16 i've been like this. Of course I've done stupid shit but even as a teen, girls would use that "be more spontaneous" line on me. I knew at that moment they'd be contacting me years down the line crying about their ruined lives, lol. You can afford to be spontaneous in small doses (planning to go to McDonald's but you decide last-minute that Taco Bell would be better), but making spontaneous purchases or going on a trip you can't afford can be a death sentence for your finances/future. It makes me sort of nervous when I'm in a group and I realize that there is no coherent direction and people are just sort of taking actions at random. I think that's why I didn't get a long with many people early in college where most students are so intoxicated by the newfound freedom that they sort of meander about and make massive life choices at complete random. Talking to college freshmen is like talking to Cleverbot, lol. You have no idea whether or not this person has any notion of what they're doing with themselves.

Best of both...I impulsively make plans! Diving down the Outlaw Star rabbit hole that I haven't been down in years this last week got me really excited about it all over again. Reading the thread where Mantis contacted Melfina's voice actor about doing lines to dub the pilot episode got me looking into the other voice actors out of curiosity, annnnnnnnd then a couple days after that (last night) I've already gotten tickets for a weekend trip to LA to stay with a friend and go to comic con to try and see and get an autograph from Lenore Zann since she was the voice of Aisha! She'll be there with a few others from X-Men since she voiced Rogue, but we all know where her work truly shined

So yeah, I'm super impulsive, but only because it helps combat my chronic indecisiveness when it comes to all the smaller decisions in everyday life. I like to think that once I've reach my sudden decisions I'm fairly decent at doing whatever necessary prep work and planning entailed as quickly as possible, though.

You got me. I'd be lying if I said that isn't true.

Well... god damn. I'm glad I encouraged you to take a very fun-sounding trip. You should get a good print of Aisha and have her sign that. Hell, get one for me and I'll trade you for merch! A very win-win arrangement if you're interested. Autographs aren't the kind of "merch" you can find easily. They're more sentimental than anything.

So... I suppose like hunterryan89 I'm a mixture. When I act spontaneously, sometimes it can turn into something brilliant. Other times it can lead to a lot of procrastination. I guess it's easy to burn yourself out with too much impulsiveness. In situations like this, it can be better to focus on little other than one thing and use that "other half" to plan efficiently. It can (not will, it depends) be okay to focus on other things if they're all related. Juggling many completely different responsibilities at once can be disastrous. Then again, some people can handle that.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

I'll definitely be doing what I can to try and find a print of Aisha while I'm there and then also seeing what I can do to meet her face-to-face. Unfortunately, the only way to get a paid meeting I'm seeing online is to do the X-Men group meetup experience for $150 USD, so I'll have to see if I can find her outside of that somehow. I don't wanna pay that much, and I don't wanna do that as a last resort and then tell 5 other people 'Sorry X-Men, but I'm just here for Aisha'

I'll report back on all that later! I fly in for days 2 and 3 of the con 3 weeks from today. ((and as I typed that out it brought me back to this whole 'impulse vs. planning' conversation...I guess I do kinda have time to procure prints of my own before the trip, lol. That just takes away from the excitement of playing things by ear like I usually do. I think I'm that bad example Zemekis was describing above

haha, it's not necessarily "bad", I was just saying how those types of decision-makers make me feel. Just because I feel a certain way or have a negative opinion of an approach doesn't make them bad, per-se. Those spontaneous, fearless risk-takers make up most of the poor/unhappy population BUT they also make up most CEOs/managers/leaders as well. Taking a risk to engage in an experience or activity is just that: a risk. It's not a guaranteed failure, there is a chance however small that it'll go really well and I don't want to downplay that angle either.

Sure, I'll probably retire with decent savings and accomplish most of my modest goals, but people like me don't win the lottery because we don't even try. Let's not forget that Outlaw Star follows the exploits of a chronic risk-taker and notoriously poor planner. Without people like that, we wouldn't have stories of adventure or discovery. In fact, we wouldn't even have Outlaw Star! Only 0.1% (tenth of a percent) of people who set out to become manga artists full-time are able to support themselves on manga alone. Thus, Takehiko Ito (the guy behind OLS) fits into the category of an extreme risk-taker. I look forward to the day when we have some more of his interviews translated so we can learn what the process was like in his early days writing & drawing manga. Some people have a breakout success with their first work like One Piece, but other authors remain on shaky ground eating Cup Noodles for years.

I think that depends on how mutch time and money I have at hand. If you are low on ressources, you more or less have to plan something.
If I have planty of time at hand it occurs that I decide things spontaneously.
When it comes to traveling I would plan much more on a visiting trip than on a package tour where I only reside inside of the hotel during the entire vacation.
