    Twelve Thirteen

Forgotten and empty. That's what we are. Nothing more and nothing less. No memories.

Twelve Thirteen is a game by Ben Yatzhee Croshaw who is also known as Zero Punctuation. His other works of "art" would be the Chzo Mythos series wherein the plot made no sense and boiled down to "Stop this evil thing from doing evil stuff by creating an evil bridge between it's realm and this human realm" and the Trilby: Art Of Theft game. He did some others too, but Chzo Mythos is the main one.

SO what's special about this one that would make me play it above all others?

Well, It's like Flashback (Commentary even says so) and for the most part it's a fun game. The first boss is the only real annoyance of the entire thing (asides from the gun mechanics) and everything else works well.

Included in the Let's Play is the Prequel chapter called Immunity and Croshaw's commentary to help explain things.

Again, the posts will be in some form of storyline context with some information elluding to what has happened.

And as with Cave Story, feel free to post any questions as to what's going on, why I did certain things or just post for the hell of it. You don't have to post however.

With the introductions out of the way, we shall move swiftly onto 1213

Saw your gameplay videos on Youtube, and this looks pretty interesting so far. Reminds me of Out of This World in a lot of ways. Based on the director's commentary, I'm looking forward to part 2.

You may have wanted to turn off the commentary though...it gave away a lot of spoilers D=

Yea, that's the downside to the commentary. On the other hand if there wasn't any turned on nothing would really be explained appart from a few things.

New idea: I'll record episode 2 and 3 twice. One will have commentary, one will not.

This way you get both the non-spoiler yet unexplanitory side and the spoiler filled but interesting side.

Gameplay wise they'll be the same. So if you watch one there's pretty much no point watching the other.

    RE: Twelve Thirteen

Our faces hurt with a blazing agony. We scratch at the mask that hides our visage and a light shines brightly into this nestled void.

But we pay no attention. Sleep is more important. Rest and memories may return.

Our mind is wandering. Our mind shattered. The door opens again, another trial for that man. That voice. The circles.

A gun, a taunt? The door opens again but nothing is there.

    C1P1: What is...This? C1P2: Where are we?

Familiar creatures hobble around. They want to hurt us. We can't let it happen.

The lift could let us escape. But something stops us. It crawls down the cabling like a spider. But it looks like a man. We pause and ask, C1P3: What are you?

It hurts to think. It hurts to breath. To move causes agony. WE can't take it. We need to escape. The Circles. Always with us. Always taunt us...

They show us a void. With lights and a big, blue ball. It's familiar. What is it? Could it be... C2P1: Is that Earth?

WE fall under the intense pain. Nothing can save us.

Arise we will, into a room. That voice opens the door. Always the door. Always Circles. Always Two.

A different voice talks to us. It's familiar. Mother? Your name... C2P2: O'hagen

    RE: Twelve Thirteen

The circles haunt us. Always two, watching us. Watching us move. Watching us breathe. They mock us, his eyes mock us. They all mock us.

They tortured us, that man. That voice. But why? Why do we get the vindiction of the circles? Why us above all others? Why can we always see familiarites but never remember...

We want to go home. We want to have food and drink. We want this nightmare to be over. The Circles will no longer hunt us, taunt us. Stalking. Watching.

He speaks of home, he speaks of a mission. He tells us of our purpose and that we must go, follow his words once more. Once more he lies. His Circles watch us.

This area. The capsules and the robots. The floors and the lights. They seem familiar. People are in the pods. They look like us, they look the same.

C3P1 - Were we born here?

Tests and delays. Tests and delays. Circles and two. Earth cannot live upon. Fighting constantly, proving no self worth. Worthy of nothing but wanted for one purpose. One Mission. One Purpose. Death below us, under the lift. But we live on, further. Why can we survive here. Are we GFG? C3P2 - Was this our Purpose?[hr]
And the commentary + Alternate Ending videos : C3P1B

    C3P2B

    So what remains?

Well, the next project has been picked (I'm able to churn these out quite quickly) and will start being done either tomorrow or the day after.

    See you next mission, Troopers.

This is coming along pretty well. Looking forward to the next one. However, please don't quintuple post. I'd tolerate a double post in threads like this, but going beyond that you should edit the previous post instead.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

My fault. I should've been replying more often.

While 1213's story is stronger than its gameplay, I still found it enjoyable. And the alternate ending has to be seen to be believed.

Nice job, Grimm. Looking forward to your next LP.

I know what game it'll be.

    But I'm not telling. Umad?

Yea, sorry Mantis. I'll bear that in mind next time with the next project.
