Thread: The Media Blaming Innocent People

If you don't follow him, you may not have heard.

Pewdiepie is being blamed for not only the violent church shooting in New Zealand, but also the one that happened I believe California. Why? Because the killers said "Subscribe to Pewdiepie!" in the middle of their actions. What I don't understand is how he can be held responsible for people doing this, people who are almost certainly not even fans of his. They did it because they want to see the media continue to attack people and they YET AGAIN did exactly what these sick people wanted.

Where does this end? How many people is the media going to destroy? It isn't even journalism anymore... It is hate and slander. I want nothing to do with any major news outlets anymore. I look to independents now because they depend on the truth just as much as the viewer.

Pewdiepie is not to blame at all for none of this. He didn't tell anyone to do this stuff, ever. But because he is a famous figure online and happens to be a straight white male... f him, right?

I'm over it. These people that push these narratives need to be fired and never work in any form of publishing again.

The media hates/hated PewDiePie before this (i'm sure you remember the WSJ debacle), so they lap this shit up every time they can connect Pewds to a violent crime. He never told anyone to do anything, he apologizes to the victims, he raises money via charity for them. Only the one who pulls the trigger in these events is to blame. If someone said "Obama 2012" before shooting, would the press attack Obama? No. It only goes one way because of who they get their paychecks from.

In the UK it seems that Sargon of Akkad has become the country's new favourite punching bag for similar (misguided) reasons. At least Sargon isn't apologising for anything. Pewds made a big mistake by doing so as they know they can continue to take advantage of him.

Yeah that is what I thought when it happened. He has/had nothing to apologize for. His Hitler skit and the slip of the n word were on him but these people are not his responsibility. This is what seems to be trendy not just with the media but people in general... Not taking responsibility for anything and blaming other people for their problems. Part of being an adult and growing up is taking responsibility... Imagine how many grown children are in the world now. Yikes!

I agree with you and I know we are on the same page about this kind of thing. I've probably pushed the envelope the most out of everyone here, and Mantis has always been really fair with me even when he was the one I was being an asshole to. I've gotten in political arguments (read: shitposting), posted Sonic mpreg & Aisha inflation art, and I have had "fuckers" in my post signature for several months, just to name a few. I think those guidelines are a bit misleading for what actually is and isn't allowed on the forum these days, and we should look at any enforced speech limitations in the context of speech that harms the forum itself or forum projects (manga translation, etc.).

I was worried a first when I realized that the admin is the only staff member. He could rule this place like a King (he IS British, after all), but our community is so small that he is probably familiar with every single active poster at any given time and can look at things on a case by case basis. Regardless, he's going to be updating the guidelines anyway, the rules are 9 years old! :

For a moment I thought I was in the wrong thread. What are we discussing the forum guidelines here for? As quoted by Zemekis, that system hasn't been in place for years. We haven't really needed it (it's more so common sense guidelines nowadays) and while I will write new guidelines to reflect changes I think this topic should be discussed in the guidelines thread.

I always thought about it this way: if it's allowed in Outlaw Star it's allowed here. Of course, I'm pretty lax about swears in general ("fuck" is fine) but it's just common sense to not use words like the N-word. We've been doing fine for years and nobody's felt a need to use that kind of language.

I like Morgan Freeman's approach to racism... You wan't it to go away? Stop talking about it. There are people who are genuinely racist in the world but most of them are harmless and likely won't do anything to hurt anyone. They are just jerks in their mindset. I think we have more to fear with Antifa than the KKK in 2019. A bunch of hillbillies who hardly know how to use anything online vs 14 to 30 year olds wearing masks and getting violent with anyone who apposes their views... I think that proves it enough right there.

Either way, you can't label people you disagree with as a racist. I don't think Pew is racist for saying the n word just like I don't think he is racist or antisemitic for his Hitler skit. I am not that sensitive. The majority of jewish and black people living today did not have to deal with Hitler or slavery much less public shaming of skin color. The places where racism factor in most is in the workplace and we (as well as many other countries) have laws to protect people from that.

Like I understand not liking the n word or hitler's image... but ffs it is 2019. Stop giving evil power over your life.

Everyone is a little bit racist, and discrimination is a natural behaviour.
It is not about Hatred. It is simply about in-group/out-group preferences. In more layman's terms, we generally like to be around people who are more like ourselves.

Problems arise when we pre-judge an individual's intent or morality based on characteristics that are beyond their control.

Fear is one of these instincts. It is natural, it is useful, but living in fear is not how things should be. Censorship in the public space is, in my view, an act of cowardice, because it is predicated on shutting down conversations that ought to exist in lieu of senseless violence, conversations that ultimately help bring people together through Logos.

conclusion:
Bringing it back full-circle, I think the Mainstream/Legacy Media is a tool of the global oligarchs, who want to destroy nations and enslave the People. In order to do this, they appeal to Fear and hide the Truth. This is most commonly done by publicly condemning people for views/beliefs they may or may not have, characterizing them as enemies for the public at large, without a fair, honest hearing, and silencing opposing views to their claims wherever possible. Subterfuge, censorship... these are, essentially, war/occupation techniques deployed against the People.

These are not the actions of a rational mind. While on the one hand, the global elite possess incredible wealth and power, they fear a society of people who don't need them. People who are intelligent, self-sustaining, rational, and united in their morals.
After all, without loyal followers, a King is just a man with a funny hat on his head.
