Member of the Month: September 2019

Over two years later, Member of the Month has returned! This was a great Outlaw Star Nexus tradition, although more so when the forum was formerly known as Outlaw Star UK. When the activity had become low enough that it was no longer feasible to keep running these I shelved it. That's not to say MotM is here for the long term. Hopefully with the recent activity boost it'll be here for some time!

Member of the Month had always operated as a democratic system. And as far as I'm concerned it always will. I rarely had a say because the Member of the Month was chosen with polls and on the occasion there was a tie, the month's post count was the decider. However, for September I'm making an exception. Indeed, for the first time I'm choosing September's Member of the Month myself.

I need to build momentum for MotM as it's been two years. As usual candidates must post at least ten times in the first three weeks of the month. Soon after then the thread is created. Considering September as a whole this time, excluding site staff and bots there were seven candidates. Since this time it's up to me I've considered a number of factors.

    The winner is...

    StarDood64

StarDood64 has only been here since the beginning of last month. His discovery of Nexus was random, but yet, in that month alone he's already added a whole lot to Nexus' community spirit. I've enjoyed his variety of threads in different forums plus his good attitude overall. No bias at all but he likes Perfect Dark and TimeSplitters and his avatar is from an incredible arcade game! Really though, congrats, StarDood64. Your participation is appreciated and I for one hope you stick around!

2500 wong prize has been granted. (I'm surprised this hasn't become a running joke, but wong WILL become more functional... one day! Gonna create a thread to collect ideas for this.) The golden username will be there until next month. Probably on the 24th I'll create an October MotM thread. From then on it'll revert to the old voting system.

Congrats to StarDood, i've appreciated his help in livening up the forums recently as well.

Are we setting the ground rule that site staff can't run for MotM? I'm not only thinking about myself here, it would be good to put it on record whether both Admin and Mod-tier forum staff are BANNED. Since it's a vote system i don't see why forum members can't choose a Mod they like. Mods were once normal members who are working extra hard to keep things running smoothly.

That being said, this looks like I'm petitioning for myself...so if you do choose to open it up to Mods, it should probably be for any FUTURE Mods. Either that, or exclude me for a year or something if not permanently.

Since OSUK/OSN has been run by me for most of its existence it would have been strange (and in my opinion didn't seem fair anyway) to place myself in these contests. I haven't thought about a multi-staff MotM scenario before. (Maybe I did when I had a couple of mods on OSUK which didn't last for long.) I guess moderators being candidates isn't exactly unreasonable. I get the feeling a lot of members would be more in favour of site staff which is something I often noticed on other forums. (So, it's more to do with giving regular members a fairer chance.)

Remember that you're officially an administrator. If you'd prefer to become a moderator maybe I'd think about that MotM change. Admins, not the best idea IMO. Given the forum's close-knit history and there not being much to moderate I don't predict there will be any new moderators in the foreseeable future.

I definitely see where you're coming from and I agree, so let's leave staff out of it.

Damn, thank you! Apologies that I didn't notice this thread earlier. I greatly appreciate the kind words and recognition, although I really should be thanking you and everybody else; this is legitimately the best forum I've ever been on. I've never found a group of people who had so many similar interests and ideals, so this place really feels like a digital home-away-from-home to me. When I stumbled upon this forum, my expectation was in having a nifty little place to occasionally talk about Outlaw Star, but I quickly realized that there was much more to this place than talking about anime. There is great conversation to be had, and the small but tight-knit family of forum-goers you've carved out is really something special. I plan to be here for a long time, and hopefully everyone else will as well. I greatly enjoy my dealings with the motley crew of Outlaw Star Nexus.
