    Outlaw Star vs Firefly

You may have heard of 'Firefly', it's an American space-western TV show with alot in common with Outlaw Star. A little too much, you might say... to the point it's actually been accused as a rip-off. There's an article on Wikipedia that lists most of the similarities between the shows.

But this promo for Firefly really says enough, if you ask me:

What do my fellow Outlaws think? An innocent coincidence, or fully-intentional plagiarism?

    RE: Outlaw Star vs Firefly

I've been meaning to watch this for a long time. I can certainly see where the guy's coming from, although he did make a few big errors about Outlaw Star in his notes. I read that the producer of Firefly claimed he didn't get any inspiration from Outlaw Star. Truth or lie? We'll never know.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

    RE: Outlaw Star vs Firefly

I think that producer of this show watched Outlaw Star and then utilized the information that he obtained in order to come up with some work of his own.

    Outlaw Star wins.

I've had this recommended to me a thousand times. That's probably part of the reason I avoid it. (Read: Hype Aversion) Before I die, I will probably check some of it out, though. Just to see if it's as good as everyone say's it is. Still, I'm willing to be money that I don't like it as much as Outlaw Star.

    RE: Outlaw Star vs Firefly

Firefly is a great show first and foremost.
Watched the whole shabang not too long ago.

I don't know if Joss Whedon watched Outlaw Star before hand,
many themes and sentiments are similar it's true.

    However!
Firefly is a very different show.
It has Outlaw Star's sense of adventure, 'wild west' motif, and consistent goal of making ends meet.
    And that's about it.

Y'all should check it out though.
It's not a copy of Outlaw Star.
But I found it all the more enjoyable because of the similarities that do exist.
The 'wrap-up' movie for Firefly, Serenity, is pretty fantastic as well.
Y'all would enjoy the ride, I promise.

Your point is valid AsherTheWilliams. I should have not been so quick to pass a judgement. However, I dislike watching anything but anime and the Discovery Channel. Therefore I will not watch FireFly, and I will not pass a judgment of any sort.

Thank you for opening my eyes AsherTheWilliams.

I've seen the movie for it serenity which I rather enjoyed, "I am a leaf on the wind, watch me soar!" But I've yet to see the actual show. I can see comparison from the movie: a crew, a ship, space, and a guy that kind of represents fred I guess, kinda (in that he helps out the crew).

"(18:42:32) Hannah: I like to giggle when I sit in chairs."

I've been in a room with serenity on in the background. I kind of caught a few clips. Not enough to really form an opinion, though.

Knowing the show and its history beforehand makes the movie amazing.
It's still a pretty sweet flick otherwise, but for full effect see the show.
