Thread: Profound Prologues

Outlaw Star did countless things right.
Personally, I considered the prologues their greatest success.
Many of them brought depth to the Towards Star Universe,
but all of them brought greater implications for life in general.
This is my favorite:

So what are your thoughts?

Did Outlaw Star have the best prologues evah!
Why, why not?
Did another show do it better?

This is very difficult. Only a few prologues I found uninteresting. By the way, the final episode did not have a prologue, so I removed that from the poll. There are quite a few I'd be so close to choosing (World of Desires being one of them), but I'm going to have to go with E17's (Between Life and Machine) prologue due to its philosophical nature. It's quite interesting. No real spoilers so long as you don't watch beyond the prologue/opening.

As you can probably tell by my comment, episode 2's had a large impact on me...

This really shows how it is. You are in charge of your life, no matter what happens.

Also, episode 3's prologue intrigues me. It's an insight to what the future may be like.

One last note... I'd really like to meet the Narrator.

He does a lot of videogame voices, too. Dynasty Warriors 5 is a good example (Voices Cao Ren).

The narrarator is also the voice of Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop .

I love all the prolouges but if i had to choose one I think it would be episode 8

I had to look it up, but episode 8 has one of the most bad ass prologues of all time. Just watching it gave me tingles. Having "Desire" as the background music only made it more epic.

"Gene Starwind. What are you looking for? Where will your heart's desire take you? What will satisfy you? Gene Starwind, are you going to live, or will you die here? The decision is yours. You're completely in charge of your own destiny. That's the only certain thing in life. So, believe in yourself, and create your own destiny. Don't fear failure. You have nothing to lose. The young only acquire things. You've come into possession of the Outlaw Star and Melfina. The only question now is 'how will you use them?' Go to the Galactic Leyline. No one can stop you. That passage alone is worthy of an award, in my opinion.

Great choices there.
8 is fantastic, so meaningful too.
It's a great message for at least US culture.
The fear of failure is a societal blight here.

And yes Jet's voice is amazing. 8)

I'm pretty sure it's the same in most western countries. In many parts of Asia, Japan included (from what I gather) much more is expected of students and there are far more workaholics.

Very true.
Then the question becomes
what cultures do not have an inherent fear of failure?
