If there were a sequel, what would suck? What would win? (Potential spoilers)

That's right, what would be the worst possible thing to have happen in a sequel to Outlaw Star? It can be an event, person, general plot, etc. Second question: What would be most welcome?

For me, the worst possible thing that could happen is if the male Ctarl Beast form was portrayed as a lion. I would absolutely go

The cliche portrayal of genders in feline terms is exactly that, and it drives me insane. Thankfully, lions aren't exactly popular in oriental culture, so I doubt this would be true for Outlaw Star.

The best thing that could happen is if the beast form was kept to a tiger "chassis" and design for males. Of course, this also implies the appearance of a male Ctarl-Ctarl, which would rock just as much. Then again, I like the lack of attention the males receive; they remain unpopular that way, which means I don't have to put up with all the drama that follows said popularity.

RE: If there were a sequel, what would suck? What would win? (Potential spoilers)

Added a spoiler warning if you don't mind. Well, some of the worst things were already announced, apparently, for "Sword of Wind". I can't 100% say if it was true, but apparently the information was pulled from Sunrise's site. They ditch the Outlaw Star for a new ship called The Sword of Wind, Gene and Jim part ways, and Melfina goes to college. That sounds pretty bad to me. So, hey, maybe it's not a terrible thing Outlaw Star only had one series.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

I would really like a sequal, if it was done right..there was so many questoins at the end. so what would be the story line? Gene and Melfina get married after colledge, Jim becomes a scientist and the Ctarl Ctarl empire finds Aisha, and Susuke stays an assassin? that would be sad.

Well, that announcement was made nearly ten years ago, so I don't think anything will come from it. Hmm, I could see Jim becoming a famous hacker like his father, the Computer Wizard. Also, the story I made up for my April Fools' Outlaw Star 2 joke I think would actually make a pretty cool sequel. To quote...

This man is none other than the Tempa Emperor—the man Hazanko wanted the Leyline's power to defeat, and the supreme ruler of the galaxy. Having caught wind of Gene's victory at the Leyline, he sends forces much greater than Hazanko's from the 108 Stars to investigate.

Duuz and Valeria have been reported to make appearances, and given the threat to citizen life from the 108 Stars—who in the past have wiped out entire colonies to achieve their goals—they lead an effort for the Space Forces to upgrade the Outlaw Star so that Gene can venture into the Hoppo system and gain a strategic advantage with a pre-emptive strike.

Something well done for a sequel and not "killing" the characters would be great indeed.
Mantis idea would rock indeed too

RE: If there were a sequel, what would suck? What would win? (Potential spoilers)

Yeah, even though Mantis' idea was not what the creators were planning on making, I would actually like to see THAT be made rather than the "Sword Of Wind" idea. I mean, the whole premise behind the XGP was that it was built to be the best ship out there. If the Sword of Wind was better than the Outlaw Star, then why the hell was everyone after the XGP and NOT the Sword of Wind?!

This idea of a sequel wouldn't bother me so much if:

    Story Plot
They didn't put that "Epilogue" into the ending of the last episode where Aisha and Suzuka rejoined Gene, Jim, and Melfina in the XGP during that maintenance. Plus the fact that they did have a destination to go to but they never clearly stated why or what for.

Now in terms of what would be bad to me, if it stayed stagnant or they changed things like, oh I don't know, what ship they friggin' ride on!? And when I mean stagnant, I mean how the characters didn't exactly develop over time. As well as add those "add-on" episodes like when they went to that water planet. Now don't get me wrong, Outlaw Star IS hands down my favorite Anime. Quite frankly, it's one of the only anime's I can stand really. I just felt though that the characters personalities (especially Gene's) didn't really develop until the ending, and even then it doesn't change drastically.

Trust me, I want a sequel, I REALLY do! But even if they made one, there are major points in the series that question what the sequel would be.
And I always found myself wondering what would be the RIGHT sequel? I mean, think about it like this:

    SPOILER: Major Plot Point Questions
    • The Galactic Leyline moved at the end, so it was never destroyed. But would they want to try to find it again? And what for? Treasure again?
    • One of the main premises in the Outlaw Star series was not just finding the Galactic Leyline, but discovering Melfina's past. Now that she knows who she is, what next?
    • Not to make her sound inferior, but Melfina's main purpose was to help with granting anyone the ability to have there desire come true. Now that the series is over and she accomplished that, what would she do now in terms of being a main character?
    • The McDougall Brothers are still alive (to some extent) would they come back for revenge? If so, would it be the major plot or just another add-on to the sequel?
    • Hazanko may have been cocky and defied orders, but he had a superior. Even though Mantis' post of the sequel was false, would it be a far shot from what could possibly be?
    • I can't remember the destination at the end, but Gene and the crew planned on heading to another place. What was it for?
    • Will Aisha and Suzuka really stay with the crew? Suzuka did make a promise and Aisha does want the money that she feels Gene owes, but is it enough to keep them?
    • Would it start right after the original series or would it take place months/years afterwards?
    • The problem of having another series that uses the "Upgrade" technique (where you aren't strong enough in the beginning, but somehow you get better enough to just beat the toughest villain)
    • Another ally character being added just to make the concept fresh?
    • Would a main character have to die to make it not seem like the same thing over and over again?
    • One of Gene's motives was that he wanted to "Make It Big" so would the sequel be just another way to be rolling in the dough and trying to repay Fred Lou off?

Now what I would like to see in a sequel....Hmm, it's tough because what I want isn't exactly a plot per say, but rather what is just within it. I would love to see some more background of each character's past. I THINK that in the novels they talk about Suzuka's past, but I want to know certain things from each character (Numbered for my importance):
    1. How did Gene and Jim actually meet and decide to become business partners?
    2. Why did Gene decide to use the Caster Gun? He has an admiration for the weapon and it is his weapon of choice, but how did he come along to deciding this was the weapon for him?
    3. How did Gene grow up? I won't spoil the event but you know which one I am talking about.
    4. What happened in Suzuka's past that made her seek revenge (Probably explained in the novel, I want to see it in anime form)

    And the most important question...
Will Gene's hair stay short in the sequel!?!?

I think the most difficult question to ask is not what you would want in the sequel, but what would the sequel be about?! I'm sure you could take the main plot of the sequel and add on what the Outlaw Star UK people or I myself want, but what would the overall story line be in the sequel?

I would rather there be NO sequel and to keep dreaming of what it might be than to have a s****y one that takes my high hopes and shatters them.
