Has Outlaw Star inspired you to get into other anime series?

I was reflecting back on what I used to watch. Since I was into Toonami back in the day, I watched a lot of the anime they had to offer. My favorites among them all being Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z. While I didn't classify Outlaw Star as a favorite back then, I can see why I loved it now and how it played a role in other animes I got in to following that series.

Has Outlaw Star gotten you into other animes? Maybe peaked your interest in another by accident because of similarities?

Not I. I was well into anime before Outlaw Star came along. That honor basically goes to Bio Booster Armor Guyver and Gunsmith Cats.

Another anime specifically? No. I did watch other animes prior like Dragonball Z but Outlaw Star did get me into the cycle of checking out other Animes. More or less keeping an eye open for ones that look interesting but nothing relatable to Outlaw Star

Well if anything it showed me that a space anime could be fun and ridiculous rather than dark and serious. I was used to Cowboy Bebop (which has it's fun moments, but it's central theme is depressing and the show is most memorable when depressing), Crest of the Stars, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Gundam, Lord of the Flies in Spa- I mean Infinite Ryvius, but that showed me another side of the genre I'd never cared to appreciate before.

Maybe I never watch Space Dandy, a top three anime of mine currently, if not for Outlaw Star.

No, but it inspired me to get into non-anime series i.e Firefly.

I loved Cowboy Bebop but it was a rather depressing show. I never really thought about this but you are right... Most space themed animes are a bit on the darker and more straight-gun point. This is like one of very few to actually make something fun and funny to watch. Really cool to think about though. It makes it stand out more because of that.

An old Outlaw Star fansite (probably on Geocities or something) was actually how I discovered the term 'anime'. Eureka moment for my 11-year-old brain. 'So THAT'S what it's called!' Unfortunately most anime can't hold a candle to Outlaw Star in my eyes, but I would say it definately defined my taste in general. Cyber City Oedo 808 and Armor Hunter Mellowlink are similar in that there's a certain grit to them that you won't find in the majority of anime, especially not in recent years.
