    Taiwanese Merch

I made a thread a month back about the Thai and Taiwanese manga versions I discovered. Though I've owned the Thai manga for a fair amount of time, the Taiwanese manga has been in limbo for a while. I've been working with an individual agent (a really nice person, better than using companies in my opinion) to get it... along with a selection of other items.

The reason for the delay is that 90% of the items are ready to send, but the others are in warehouses with a huge inventory and pretty slow operations due workers being spread thin, I'd guess because to COVID. So I said we'll hang on until the end of the week and if they've not come yet, just send the order. I think the two other items are a copy of the Taiwanese Angel Links manga and some FRHS merch.

A photo of what's at the agent's home in Taiwan:

I bought two sets of the Taiwanese Outlaw Star manga. There's also the aforementioned Angel Links manga. (I guess I ordered the other as a spare.) There's at least one book of the Taiwanese Future-Retro Hero Story there. I'm not certain what one of them is. I'm also uncertain of the presentation because FRHS is actually a couple dozen volumes in Japanese.

You can see bootlegs of the first and second soundtracks. This is very interesting. I've found that bootlegs of the soundtracks may have circulated in the past that were done cleverly enough to not be able to tell the difference. In this case there are clear differences.

Finally, at the left is a set of Taiwanese Outlaw Star VCDs. I'm curious about these. VCDs are pretty rare OLS merch that usually emerge from Asia where the format flourished but this is the first time I've seen them in DVD-style cases. They are most likely bootlegs but I can't say for sure... yet. Naturally I will use my magic powers to determine that.

I usually buy spares for the off-chance that I'll feel the need to break them apart for the sake of scanning. So who knows, maybe I'll scan some of that one day. It's something that'll be towards the bottom of my list, but I can imagine the Chinese aspect being interesting to you. Maybe it would actually be useful since you have a Chinese wife who could help with the parts where the Kei Pirates speak Chinese. The Chinese manga is Cantonese (actually from Hong Kong, I ought to save those books from the commies ) but I'm not certain about the Taiwanese manga. I'd think it would be Taiwanese Mandarin but I guess we'll be able to find out for sure soon enough.

I got my package from Taiwan. When I get the chance I'll take some photos. I got two sets of Taiwanese Outlaw Star (I already knew that one of them is in bad condition and only got it potentially for scanning), the Taiwanese Angel Links (yep, it's only one book), bootlegs of the two OSTs, the full Taiwanese Outlaw Star VCD set that surprisingly appears to be official (surely too professional for a bootleg but I can't say for certain yet) and a collection of Future-Retro Hero Story postcards that's really awesome.

Also, some random book. I have no idea what it is. I've messaged the shopper and think they were maybe sent a wrong book. If that is the case, nothing I can do about it.
