Thread: Gwen's Day Research Ideas

This thread is for any suggestions for Gwen's Day articles, which happens bi-weekly on Wednesdays. Check the calendar at the top of the page to find out when Gwen's Days are. I'd really appreciate any ideas you can share. Thinking of twenty-five article topics in a year won't be easy.

More than merchandise, Gwen's Day will focus on the manga, other unexplored areas like planned sequels and the Toward Stars universe.

Considering the basic concept of Gwen's Day is to focus on unexplored pieces of the manga, perhaps trying to find some sort of symbolism we don't tend to look at and finding how it plays in with the theme of Outlaw Star could be an idea? I'm not sure if that makes sense or not, really, but it's the first thing to come to mind...Mostly because that's the kind of thing I used to do in English classes at school. We did it with what was generally seen as a kid's book once...So I bet it'd be even more interesting with Outlaw Star to delve even deeper.

How about the non-human species of OS? I was thinking those with sentience, but I suppose it could include whatever! I'm particularly interested in the sentient beings with which humans have had dealings like the Corbonites and the Silgrians. There's enough to spotlight the Ctarl-Ctarl on their own (which again, good job on that previous article), but I think these other species could be grouped together because information on them is so scant.

Also, I think something spotlighting Juji Godoh of Future Retro Hero Story would get a lot of attention (and I would personally find interesting). A lot of people probably still don't even know about this manga's existence, so there's that appeal, but apart from knowing about it (yo) I would suspect even fewer non-Japanese people have ever read it. Spotlighting a bit more on Juji--more than just a brief bio, delving into his personality a bit, his journey, etc.--would be fascinating and maybe help people understand that much more of what Ito was going for with having both Ark and Urt going out of their way to comment on Gene's red hair.

This is a really interesting idea. I know I personally would like to hear more about Future Retro Hero Story, but I don't know nearly as much as Lobo most likely. I'm especially curious to know what it involves with Gene's hair now...Seriously, I thought he was just a redhead because it suited him in the beginning. Redhead, hothead...Mind you I say this as someone with quasi-reddish hair myself (which we still don't know how I managed to inherit from my great grandparents).

Also possible, family trees that are noted in the story could be interesting- but I don't know just how much of that is really listed in the manga. But if that were something easily able to be found, it might be interesting to learn the history of some of the characters through such details. Our ancestry is often seen as playing a pivotal role in our lives even without ever having been, to some.
