What is with people and getting so angry?

I see this a lot in my family. I am one of the only ones who honestly don't care at all about sports. I went through a phase where I did but I lose interest over time.

Anyways, my family members get angry and actually start yelling at the TV when football is on. Same with Baseball. I don't get it. What does getting angry and yelling at a TV even do? lol

It just seems silly to me.

Never understood people who connect so closely with what they see on a screen. They are usually so normal in day to day life too...it's almost scary to see them lose all sense of normalcy and go into their fantasy land yelling about the sportball game. I know exactly the type of person you're talking about. It mustn't be that rare though since there are millions of that type of person worldwide when you count Soccer, Football, Baseball fans etc.

I'll never understand either, but I've never been a sports fan. As stupid as it seems to me sometimes, I guess I can't offer an opinion as strong as somebody who has actually experienced this could.

A lot of sports fans seem to feel some kind of an affinity with a phantom team. Call it national pride or for their home city or town, these people will often genuinely believe that they're a part of it and say things like, "we won!"

It's a type of passion I'm completely unfamiliar with. But then again, I suppose it's not entirely incomparable to other things like politics. People get extremely passionate about their party of choice, but 99.99999% of the time we're just faces in the crowd. Sure, obviously we can all vote, but unless we become real-life campaigners and not just slacktivists, our contributions are very meagre. (Obviously not collectively.)

I know my analogy isn't perfect and even in ways apples and oranges, but they're similar in how they can make people irrational and emotional because of something they have minimal impact on.

I've bet on a football game before. If I cared about the game, I'd watch it and see how it plays out and then go about my day. Why care so much about a team that (usually due to their busy and lavish lifestyles) doesn't give a monkey's about nearly all of their fans? Both topics I've talked about often lead to physical violence. Getting that angry is a waste of time.

Same reason why you have people rage and break shit when they lose at videogames; because a lot of people take their hobbies way too fucking seriously.

At least with video games your own skill and interaction with the medium are a factor. When watching sport you have no influence on the outcome, making it all the sillier to rage over. Still, I agree that some gamers need to control their emotions.

I understand having some kind of bond through common interest which I know is a great feeling to connect with people but still, it doesn't justify getting that angry.

Yeah, if you are supporting a team and they lose or mess up it sucks but life goes on. These people are paid hundreds of thousands if not millions every year. You should be more angry about that. lol

People should bond over things they enjoy, not things that make them rage.

Ideally yes, but a united hatred can defend borders :V
"It turned out that the ghost was just Mr. Finley, who ran the amusement park. The spooky part is that, as soon as the ghost appeared, the teenagers' dog began to speak! And it spoke in a tortured parody of human speech: 'relp me, Raggy,' it would say. 'I am an abomination and rould re rilled. Rill re, Raggy.'"

True, true. I think I was specifically referring to entertainment.
