Best place to purchase the DVD boxset?

I'd like to get my hands on the DVD box, but I assume that finding it online would prove to be much easier than trying to find it in any local shops given how small town I live in. I know that ordering online, especially when it comes down to a bit older stuff, might be a tad more expensive venture, but as long as we're not talking about taking a second mortgage it should be doable.

What I have found is that there are multiple versions of the same set released around the globe, so would one be preferable over the other? Just so that I know which one to start hunting for! All ideas are welcome!

There are two official US versions out there. Outlaw Star: The Complete Collection (red boxset) and Outlaw Star: The Collection (black boxset). They are basically the same six DVDs in different boxes. Unfortunitly, both are discontinued and cost a small fortune (from $65 to $300+). Ebay does sell the bootleg version from Malaysia that basiacally the US release on three DVDs instead of six and the quality is the same with a round about cost of $16 to $25 for them. I'm hoping Funimation comes out with the Blu-ray soon since they aquired OLS back in 2013.

Well, there is the more recent UK boxset (Complete Collection) which would set you back about $40, but it all depends on where you are in the world. There are many bootlegs out there. I have a Chinese bootleg which despite having terrible video quality, has a really nice case design. The Malaysian bootleg is probably a good idea though, because as far as I know the quality is the same as the US versions.

If you want the show legal, your best best would be to wait for Funimation to release it. The only problem with that is that they have never given any indication of when a boxset for it will come out.

Due to that I'm gonna have to agree with mantis that you might just wanna get a bootleg for it. If you feel really terrible doing it then you can go back and buy the Funimation boxset whenever that comes out, but if you want it now then go bootleg.

Funny how I thought I replied here last night, but apparently I didn't...

I was supposed to say that I wouldn't have any problems with a bootleg per se, but I'm just a bit weary about the video quality of those. Maybe I've just run across bad copies so often that I'm not really interested in going that route, but hundreds of dollars for a DVD doesn't sound that appealing either.

BluRay would be cool, yeah, but I guess that's not going to be an option at least anytime soon
