    The Ice Has Melted

(Hey, I think it's time this part of the forum was used ^^ Feel free to join!)

It had been a fair while since the adventures at the Galactic Leyline. Gene and his crew resumed most of their duties on Sentinel III. I.E. Accepting jobs for their organisation, Starwind and Hawking Enterprises. Since their return, there weren’t much call for the world class bounty hunter and his crew. Unless of course you’re talking about a cat that keeps going missing from the neighbour’s house next door. Gene grew to detest this cat. He didn’t need more scars on his body.
Gene lay on his side, overlooking the street below from his balcony. People bustled by before his tired eyes, busy with their own quests and daily life. He felt sick. Everyone seemed to be moving on while he sat in a stagnant bucket of water, aimlessly paddling to try and climb out. Maybe tonight he’d make up an excuse to take the Outlaw Star from the spaceport and fly to a planet like Tenrei? Then again, he could always go down to town and visit Club Temptations; though he wasn’t sure whether that was the cheaper option. To be honest, he was looking for an excuse to get his feet off the ground and travel through space in the Outlaw Star once more, and this wasn’t going to happen by accepting jobs like “Tiddles has gone missing again!”
    “Hey, Jim…”
“What is it, Gene?” he answered with a hint of frustration in his voice. He was busy pouring over the financial papers. Without much jobs coming in, that meant not a lot of wong was passing through their pockets. They were in danger of losing the Outlaw Star’s docking bay. No matter how many times he’d tried to warn Gene, it never seemed to sink in.
“Try and find us some real work, huh? Something worthy of a Bounty Hunter of my calibre.”
Jim sighed deeply. “We’ll take what we can get. Don’t you realise what sort of shape our finances--”
“Urgh, don’t start with all that again!”
“But if we just turn a blind eye to it--”
“I told you not to start with it!” Luckily for the boys, Melfina stepped out of the kitchen, stirring their dinner in the large cooking pot. A serene smile, completely oblivious to the animosity between the partners.
“Dinner’s almost ready! Please come to the dining room!”

“Mmm… music to my ears ~Nyaaa!” shouted a voice from the door. A large, catlike woman seemed to float in, following her nose. Gene rolled his eyes and sat up, slapping his feet to the floor.
“Get out, Aisha, unless you plan to actually pay for your meals.”
“Huh? You would dare speak to a crewmate like this?! You should be rolling out the red carpet for me! Besides, I’ve been slaaaving away for days at my job, just to bring you back some tasty little tid-bits; the least you could do for me is provide one of Melfina’s very special meals!”
    “…No deal, out.”
Melfina’s eyes seemed to light up when she saw Aisha and welcomed her with a smile and a little bow of the head. “You’ve been gone a while, Aisha. You have to tell us all about your adventures!”
“Oh, I will… but first…” Melfina was already one step ahead of the Ctarl Ctarl. She placed a steaming bowl of soup in front of her, followed by a generous helping of homemade bread. The girl squeaked and started to chow down, talking while she ate as usual. “Well! Seeing as you went through the trouble for me! I was at work, right? And then…” This was the point where Gene would usually switch off. He took his seat at the table beside Jim and just concentrated on spooning the hot liquid into his mouth when something Aisha said caught his attention.
“Hot Ice Hilda? But isn’t she…?” his mind was on overdrive. He was so sure he’d seen Hilda fall to her death… could she be…?
“You’re clearly not listening. I said an associate of Hot Ice Hilda came up to me and offered us a job!”
“Job, huh…?” trouble was written all over this request, but it was the most promising prospect out of the bunch. Hurrying to finish his meal, he raced upstairs to get dressed. After all, he had to go meet with this associate of Hilda’s.

Meanwhile across town, the associate was already at the destination. She took a seat at the local bar and ordered an Aspen. The ice clinked in her glass as she brought it to her red lips. The air around the woman seemed to burn, as if she was radiating heat. “Would you like anything else, Miss?” the woman shook her head and took off her hood. It was time to play the game.

    RE: The Ice Has Melted

Okay, I've not done RP before, but here goes nothing. If I'm doing anything wrong let me know! (Perhaps PM me if so and I'll edit as necessary.) I guess at this point I assume the role of a character? Uhm, so I'll be Gene? I'll use italics to represent thoughts.

    [hr]

"She's at Clyde's, huh?", Gene thought to himself as he walked through the door, seeing what seemed to be the associate's back as she talked to Iris, who then walked back to the counter. "Now that brings back memories. The first time I met Hilda—well, Rachel—she was sat at that exact same seat." Gene recalled some painful memories... Hilda's demise. He grimaced and proceeded to talk to the associate. "So, you're the associate?" Gene sat down at his usual seat. The associate was quite the dame; a pretty face and an interesting bohemian clothing style to boot. She was blonde and her eyes gleamed as she smiled warmly. "Not quite the hard-ass that Hilda was I guess..."
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

    RE: The Ice Has Melted

It's been more than a month since this was active and I've never roll played but I'll bite. If it is still active do you want me to take the roll of a series character or can I add someone to our little Outlaw dance card?

(It would've been best if you PM'd me this question as I wanted this thread to be just about the role play. You may introduce a new character of your own fiction, however it must be believable at best and not really take the light from the main characters. Also, if it's something like "I'm Gene's forgotten brother!!" .....bad things will happen )

"Ah, the fabled Gene Starwind..." the girl whispered, a small blush brushing her cheeks. "I didn't think you would really show up..." her voice was soft, somewhat lyrical as it left her cherry lips. It was like a worm dangling in front of Gene's eyes. Not only was the girl attractive, but she also knew of him. Gene laid back in his seat as Iris brought him his usual, scowling at the girl out of her beloved's view. How dare she sit before him, forcing a blush to her cheeks!
"Well, why wouldn't I? Especially for such a babe..."
"Oh, Mr. Starwind, you do flatter me... ARGH!" ice and the remainder of her sour apple Aspen was now sitting on her lap as Iris had "leaned" over to clean the table.
"Iris! How could you do that?!" yelled Gene as he got up, snatching the cloth from Iris's hip.
"Oops.. I am sooo clumsy... forgive me!" she mumbled, a satisfying smile creeping on to her face. Gene waved her away, if just for now. This was a potential client, not to mention a babe. He leaned over and was about to mop up the spilt drink from her lap, with a smile that would lay on a cheeky child's lips, when he realised something strange. Her skirt was dry, her legs were dry; as if the drink hadn't spilled over her at all. She brushed her hands over herself and giggled shyly.
"Perhaps there wasn't as much liquid in the glass as I thought?"
Bull... thought Gene. He knew the glass was nearly completely full as there were just one pair of slightly smudged lipstick on the edge of the glass. Who was this woman? "Shall we get down to business, Mr. Starwind?"
"Please, just call me Gene." he sat back down, thoroughly perplexed, missing the girl's faint blush as she repeated his name under her breath. "Well, seeing as you can call me Gene... what shall I call you?"
"My name's Sophia... and I have an... interesting proposition for you." that smile... if Hilda had used that smile, Gene would have known to back off from the "proposition" immediately... but Sophia? How could he refuse? "There is something rather precious to me and it's lost..."
Please don't let it be just some dog... he thought to himself as Sophia was building up the courage to explain her problem.
"You see... it was passed down to me from Hilda, to her from Rola, and so on... and now it's stolen. I can't go retrieve it by myself..."
"So you know where it is?" he decided to ignore the fact she had previously said "lost" then replaced the term with "stolen".
