Talking Cowboy Bebop Live Action Adaptation

Honestly, do you think it will get the same treatment as that interesting upcoming Death Note film adaptation or do you predict it will be different? Keep in mind this will be a TV series, so I'm guessing it will either be butchered and dragged out over a whole season or they'll do a decent job of it. But without the Ghost in the Shell budget I'm not so sure about that.

The only way I can see if working is if they do new stories rather than just do a straight adaptation of the series. If all they are going to do is just have live action performers doing the exact same story, then what's the point when we already have the anime. I can't see this working unless they get someone with a unique vision that will put his/her stamp on it

You're right there. This is my response to a YouTube comment but I might as well post it here too:

I liked the Ghost in the Shell adaptation, but it had two things that made it what it is. (Regardless of whether one likes it or not, it's undeniable that it looks nice.)

    1. High budget
    2. Being a film

I don't think Bebop needs to look quite as spectacular as GitS, but I don't think the budget will be even half as big as GitS's and that budget is being stretched out over a whole TV series. I really don't have high hopes for it. Also, the anime itself is episodic which doesn't translate well to live action. Some of the episodes are ridiculously bizarre, like that one with the clown. They'd have to redo the entire thing and not many fans would like that.

I've done some research. It's difficult to find information on this Tomorrow Studios, but apparently they made the TV series Aquarius. Aside from Aquarius I can't find much other info. Apparently, the average TV series costs $3.5 million per episode. Cowboy Bebop has twenty-six, but with the recent trend of TV series I think that will be cut to thirteen episodes. $3.5 million times that is $45.5 million. GitS's budget was $110 million. That's for 110 minutes, versus $45.5 million for 520 minutes. You might say Bebop won't rely as heavily on nice visuals which is true, but many of the episodes would have to rely on CGI, and you know how people feel about bad CGI. I just can't see it looking as nice as Bebop (which has great animation) or the battles being good.

If they ruin this for me... I will get very angry and then likely cry after. lol

As mentioned, it has to be an entirely different story to work or it has to have a massive budget. I have been so disappointed over the years with people taking cartoons or anime series and making them live action movies it is about all I can't take. This is my favorite anime though and if they ruin this I will be very disappointed.

I wish I wasn't so cynical about it but...

I mean, a movie sure, but doing a show kinda puts this new edition in direct competition with the old.

Are they going to straight lift episodes line by line from the anime?
If so, what are they going to add to make up for what's lost artistically lacking imagination of the cartoon medium?

Or are they going "off script"?
If that, what are they going to cherry pick to keep or oust?
Heck, they might not even be hunting bounties by the time all's said and done.

    I dunno folks.
I wish them luck, but unless it just gets rave reviews I'mma stick with the version with prettier colors.

I'm not going to have high expectations for any type of anime adaptation at this point. So far, the ones we have now are between okay to awful. I can hope for Cowboy Bebop, but I think they will do to it what they did to Ghost in the Shell.
We are all insane, we just act normal for the sake of others.

I have no expectations that this will be a good adaptation. And honestly, regardless of who adapts it, I really don't think they could do justice to Bebop. It stands by itself, essentially perfect in it's own right. There's nothing they can really add to it to make it better.
