Do you think the world would be a better place without drugs or alcohol?

Now this is something that I have thought about myself. I am not a drink, don't smoke pot.. Nothing like this BUT I think in the past, these things have served a purpose to improve the future. I think that it is not as important now as it was way back when. Music and arts are good examples that have been influence by the use of alcohol or drugs. It is a bit of an odd thing to think of really.

What do you all think? Would the world be a better place without drugs or alcohol?

Creativity will always be in abundance with or without drugs or alcohol. It was creativity that made drugs and alcohol anyway. I personally feel it doesn't make a difference either way we have them or not.
We are all insane, we just act normal for the sake of others.

Haha. Before I saw your comment, I was going to say drugs and alcohol have made the creativity in man sprout exponentially. However, you are right Lord-Idolo. We made alcohol and drugs, so it is also possibly true that without them, we would still be where we are in terms of development. The only way we can know this for sure is if one of you chaps creates a time machine. That way, we can go stop the invention of drugs and alcohol, then come back to the present and observe the changes.

Obviously, earth would be a better place if this was the case. However, it really depends on whether or not it is while we still have knowledge that it has ever existed. Or it was completely erased from existance and history. If it never existed at all, then a lot of crimes and car accidents, would not take place. However, if it was suddently removed from earth, it would possible make criminals try other things that makes them feel awesome. One of those are adrenaline, they might speed at 200mph just to get an adrenaline kick, or they might even rob a bank because they know how much adrenaline will pump through your body when the cops are chasing after you.

On the other hand, if it never existed, then people wouldn't know any better and simply live life as it is.

Alcohol sure, with drugs it depends since some can be used for medical purposes, but obviously stuff like cocaine and heroin can go.

I think it's a no-brainer. I'm not saying drugs shouldn't ever be used on a recreational (in moderation) basis. Even though I've been in absolute agony before, for which I needed to be put on a high dose of morphine (basically heroin) I've still gotta say that the world would overall be a better place without any drugs or alcohol. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe a lot of the worst traffickers make a living from multiple kinds of trafficking and drugs are clearly the most profitable. Without drugs I think it's very likely that human trafficking figures would decrease significantly. That of course leads to sex slavery (and other kinds) and often death.

While I don't completely disagree with recreational drug use, a lot of drugs come from cartels that are often associated with human trafficking. It's also obviously true that a lot of recreational drug use leads to addictions which can lead to death. Hypothetically, yes, the world would likely be a better place if drugs and alcohol never existed, but now that they're here I don't have anything against those who use "safer" drugs (no crystal meth) responsibly.

Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

I don't think we can just say drugs in general. Some meds are quite beneficial (depsite many also being poison). Some are fun in moderation too. I like to have a beer. I'd even probably indulge in some wacky tobaccy if it were legal.

There are of course many problems associated with drugs and alcohol. It's too bad people don't have better self-control and more common sense.

I think the world would be a better place with drugs if only for the variety of experience they offer.

These things are like tools, they can be used responsibly or abused.

The world would be a better place if more people were better informed and at least slightly more conscientious.
