Can someone ever compete with YouTube?

I know a lot of people love to hate YouTube right now, this is especially true for content creators. I really don't see any solutions being made to all the problems they have caused. The only way out for some I would say is to go to another video hosting platform that offers money. There really isn't one out there right now that can compete with YouTube though.

Do you think it will ever happen, like a video platform comes up to take over YouTube?

I can't see it happening. YouTube really has monopolised video sharing. There have been attempts to rival its success and even giants like Facebook tried to place a greater emphasis on video functionality, but they're worlds apart. Smaller sites have tried to compete, like Minds. They signed loads of sponsorship deals with various YouTubers. They said they'd rival YouTube as well as Facebook, touting themselves as a social media alternative due to their free speech policies and anti-censorship. In this instance though you do have to put all your eggs in one basket as YouTube isn't really a social network, and when Google tried to make it one with Google Plus it was almost YouTube's undoing.

tl;dr: All that can rival YouTube is a video-only site (not social media as most users don't want the hassle) that's run by a behemoth of a corporation. Even then, YouTube has such a colossal library of content it's almost impossible. Sites like Dailymotion and Vimeo may well have had a chance... well over a decade ago! Too bad.

If it's any consolation, Youku is laying the smack down on YouTube in China. There's no contest!

I remember seeing an interview with Marissa Mayer years ago when she was still CEO of Yahoo! They are planning to launch a similar site to YouTube wherein the creators will get paid by uploading videos on their platform. Google heard of it then started sharing their ad revenues with creators, too.

Tough to say. I can imagine a few other alternatives that could pop up to rival it, especially with some of the censorship that can occur at times. To topple it though? Nah. With Google's backing, I think youtube has to powerful of a stranglehold on the video streaming game for it to get knocked out of the top spot. Then again, you could say that about Myspace back in the day so anything could happen. Still, I don't forsee that happening in the distant future.

No, unless it's a well established company with the same system as YouTube, but I don't see how anyone can out do YouTube.

The only company right now that I believe can compete with YouTube is Facebook. If Mark Zuckerberg and friends decided to publish videos publicly and creators can earn from it, YouTube will be in big trouble. As of today, the only way to make money from Facebook is being an influencer on their platform. If they also start sharing their ad revenues to users, it might be a win for them.
