What do you do when you get sick?

Woke up this morning for work and discovered that I have a 102.5 fever. Yowza. I still had to go in to the office for a meeting that was too late to cancel, but now i'm sitting here listening to the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack with a loopy brain and pounding headache. I think I'll go home at lunch time.

Do you have a common habit or ritual you do when you get sick? Whether it's something you like to do on your day(s) in bed or some trick you have to get better faster. Growing up, I had these Pokemon comics (it's technically a manga, but in the USA it was released in a comic book format) by Toshihiro Ono. When I got sick, I would always read the full series of those and the full series of my Digimon comics.

I've now mostly recovered from a nasty cold I got about a week ago. Of course, the symptoms aren't the same as influenza, but as far as sicknesses in general go I follow a few guidelines. Keep in mind they won't all necessarily apply to influenza. Don't expect anything out of the ordinary from Dr Mantis. I don't have a license! (Still waiting for that.)

First of all, always make sure you're well hydrated. If you don't feel like drinking water, drink some anyway.

While you're sick don't let anything disturb your sleep. Allow your body to repair itself and avoid alarm clocks while you have time off work.

If you've got the flu or something more contagious, it's best to avoid others as much as possible until you recover. If you were planning to spend time with somebody it might be best to do it over the telephone or the internet.

If you want to eat, eat. If you feel too queasy don't feel bad about not eating, but try to do it when you can as you need those calories. Also, obviously watch what you eat. I'm not sure what's best when it comes to influenza so you might want to look that up.

Over-the-counter products should help you out over the coming days. Perhaps get something a little bit nicer than your standard pill. I always found that those powdered hot drinks helped me a little, and they don't taste half-bad either.

Make yourself cosy because you're probably be in bed for a while. Don't force yourself to get up and take on any usual responsibilities. Just stay in bed so you'll recover more quickly. (By the way, I also have one of those old Pokémon comic books that I never got rid of. Except it's a lazy one that's made from screenshots of the anime. Still a fun read.)

I think that's just about everything. It should be okay to use a computer sometimes, but you have a headache, so take breaks and if you're bored and your headache's a bit better listen to audiobooks or whatnot. Remember that reading might make your headache worse. Anyways, these are things I usually do. I'm sure others will offer some good (or better, lol) advice too.

    Oh the nostalgia feels!
I remember those comics, good times... good times...

For me, I just aim to be unconscious as long as possible and hope that things will sort themselves out during the slumber.
That and ibuprofen... a lot of ibuprofen.

Wow, that's a lot of medical advice.

I was more wondering if you guys have any traditions or favorite things to eat/do when you're home sick. Maybe i'm the only one who sees it as a mini-vacation...

Anytime I start to feel sick, I will reach for the good ol' combo of teat and raw honey. I will start mega dosing vitamin C (4000mg+). I tend to just rest a bit for 48 to 72 hours depending on how bad I feel and then after that, I force myself to move more to help flush everything out better. For those few days where I am resting, I usually binge watch something from bed or veg out playing video games.

Yes, home remedy from parents who grew up in the farm. A good amount of lemon with about half of that measure being honey. It does help but you also have to be able to stay down for a day and keep up a decent etching schedule. Whenever you sleep when sick, snot constantly runs into your stomach and that causes all sorts of havoc on a bodily system. Yes this helps your throat but not your stomach, so take medicine to combat it, eat enough good meals and keep low (dont go chasing people in foreign spaceports with creepy cats) and you should be just fine.
