    Lemons alkalize the system so since snot and mucus is high in acid, it helps break it down. That is why it is recommended for such things. Honey (raw) does the same.

    And I don't know how many people actually know this but a lot of people get sick through their ears and nostrils. If you are going to be in a crowed area with people coughing and what not, take a bit of coconut oil and put it just inside your nostrils and just inside your ears. It will prevent pathogens from getting into the body. Works quite well. I actually do this regularly and I haven't been sick in 3 years.
