Super important manga update below that justifies the tidal wave of text!

It really has been a long time, huh? Outlaw Star Nexus has slowly but surely been growing in numbers. "Eh Mantis," you say. "How has it been growing when this place has been as empty as the Galactic Leyline for the past year?" Hold your grappler ships! It's been growing... on Facebook. The Facebook page still gets regular updates. "LOL Facebook? Really mate?" I agree! Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to give great Outlaw Star content to Facebook readers, but it ain't on! We need the olden golden Outlaw Star UK back, like back in the day! This site may be Outlaw Star Nexus by label, but it's still the old and classic OSUK in spirit.

A few of us are starting a movement. It's early days, but we're trying to get a bunch of old veterans and newcomers alike to revive the community. We need you. *points finger from your computer screen* Er... Like that, just directed at you. Wait, that would be the middle finger. Never mind. There's also an extra incentive. I'm back to working on that old manga project of mine. No BS, I'm going to finish it this time and I'm trying to fit in three hours of manga work a day. Not only this, but I have a friend in Tokyo who's going to search for those extra manga chapters not in the volumes. (I already have some of them.) The end result? Five volumes, not three. That's what Takehiko Ito intended. "Wait Mantis. What good are volumes if it's digital media?" That's where becoming a Nexus Crusader comes in.

To become a Nexus Crusader you only need to post once a day. After a week you'll gain the Nexus Crusader rank. Life happens and from time to time you might miss a day, but try to maintain this and you'll get access to a special forum section where you can view my progress on the manga for every ten pages I complete. (This forum will open when I've completed the first ten pages of the first volume, in the next couple of weeks I hope.) It's early access to the true outlaws. Now, onto the volumes. When the project is complete, active Nexus Crusaders will be entered into a prize draw to win the only physical copy of all five English volumes of the manga. I realise that I can't give you any guarantees that I'll complete the manga, but I'm sure that if you have an idea of how much of an Outlaw Star fan I am you can believe in me.

If you have any questions, just ask in this thread in the Site Updates forum. If you're unable to log in, either send the Outlaw Star Nexus Facebook page a message or send an e-mail to _____________.

This has been long, so to end this update I'd like to mention a couple of upcoming features. Many of you will remember the achievements system from Outlaw Star UK. After the transfer from MyBB to vBulletin that feature was lost, but in the next week I'm hoping it will be back. There's an Outlaw Star trading card game I worked on quite long ago called Outlaw Star Triple Triad. I've taken it offline until it's finished or in a good working state. It will be here by the end of this month. By participating on this forum you'll be able to buy booster packs of character cards from all over the Outlaw Star universe. You may know the system from Final Fantasy VIII, but you'll be able to battle with your cards against other forum members or even CPU characters. Click here to see a video on my YouTube channel. That's me done. Over to Fred...

Fred Luo's Thread of the Month

Well well, it's lovely to see you all again! I'm just so happy that the forum is getting activity again. I'm still waiting for Gene to visit me again. When you're travelling all across space sometimes you get rather lonely. If Reiko Ando wins again next year I'm due to be her husband. It's déjà vu! Help, Gene. Sorry for the drama, guys. I'm really impressed by the effort user harilikespizza is putting into his new content. If he keeps this up I hope he'll change his username to harilikesfred! Just check out this fantastic thread (no pun intended, even though I'm fantastic!): Guess that Director! This is a game in Tenrei in which you're given artwork from a few Outlaw Star art directors, and you have to guess who directed the art in another set of frames. Kind of like Spot the Difference, but more like Spot the Similarity.

Great idea, harilikespizza. For that I'll give you 500W which will give you many plays at the forum arcade, or booster packs when the card game is up later this month.

Thank you, Fred. As activity has just begun, August's Member of the Month will start near the end of the month. That's it for this month's newsletter. This has also been sent as an e-mail.

Important: Please don't mark this as spam. That is only harmful to those who want the newsletter and you might still continue getting the e-mails anyway. If you want to stop any future e-mails from being sent to you, you can either do it by logging into Outlaw Star Nexus and editing your profile or by sending an e-mail saying "Unsubscribe" to shaun AT bluemantisgames.com. Thanks.

Edit: Crap, the e-mail didn't have the emoticons. That's gonna look stupid. Lesson learned.

Wow, thanks Fred! I don't know what to say.

Great update as well, Mantis-- the site has come a long way thanks to your hard work, we're all grateful to you for keeping the Outlaw dream alive. The Nexus Crusader rank is a great idea too, hopefully it'll incentivise people to participate in forum activity more often, new faces and old.

I myself have only recently come back to the Nexus, it's been a long time but this place (and the great people in it) remained in my thoughts through that time. OLS UK always felt like a close little family in a lot of ways, all from different walks of life but with a common love for this fantastic anime. It would be great if we could bring that feeling back, but the only way to achieve that is to do our very best, and; post!
