    Sports Anime: What's Your Opinion?

Sports is quite a large genre in the anime world with anime about many sports, including Tennis, Volleyball, Swimming, Basketball, and both types of football.
So, with that in mind, what do you think of sports anime, and if you watch them, what's your favorite0

For me, I've watched a few sports anime over the past year or so, and I quite like them. They're all similar, with most having something to do with a protagonist that starts off being pretty bad at the sport, but eventually being an integral part of the team, and usually being part of the winning play/match/whatever. They're not amazing anime, but they're enjoyable, especially as just casual watches.
As for my favorite, it's got to be Kuruko's Basketball (or Kurubas for short). I really like that they establish rivalries and friendships before the anime even starts, and how the build on that. But, even so, the anime does tend to drag at times, and it's not amazing. Still, it's a really nice anime with great action, explains the rules of basketball well, and has the most interesting characters out of the ones I've watched.

Does the Jet Set Radio-like electric skates racing in Air Gear count as a sports anime?

Probably not. I wish I could give a good answer, but I very rarely come across sports anime. Probably because they're not common and I don't look for them. I'd be up for watching a swimming anime though.
Gene: "Have faith in me guys, enjoy the ride—you're in good hands. I can handle this. I can do it!"
    Jim: "How do you know?"
    Gene: "I don't!"
    Jim: "I knew it."
Gene: "That's okay. There's a first time for everything!"

I've found a fair number of sports anime over my life- some based on not real sports, others based on a real sport heavily. The first one to come to mind is probably "Big Windup" (Hey, Baseball is supposedly my country's pastime xD). Or, in Japanese, it's known as "Ōkiku Furikabutte". As I said, it's a baseball anime. Personally, I liked the bit of it I watched- it did teach a bit about baseball (not overly so)...But it was mostly focused on the characters and how the sport affected them in general- and how it brought some of them together as friends. I particularly liked the main characters Abe and Mihashi- Mihashi's shy and timid nature is really easy for me to connect with, and Abe's tendency to be harsh without thinking melds so awkwardly with Mihashi's sensitivity. The way they have to work on their emotional security and ability to communicate is really nicely shown- if not a bit overdone. I also really like the coach of the team, who's just so hardworking and will do anything to help them strive- even if it means she has to get a number of jobs to pay for things. So sweet of her.

I'd be up for watching a swimming anime though.
The only swimming anime out there right now is "Free!", and it's not really about the sport...it's mostly can service with a little bit of swimming here and there.

Yeah, the only thing I really learned from it about swimming was the different strokes a bit more. I only particularly liked it because some of the character dynamics were rather entertaining. It had WAY too much fan service to me. But Go's reaction to them...That was fun stuff.

For most sports anime I generally see them as something I can binge watch and enjoy by myself, not something I would ever see myself getting in a discussion over with somebody.

Favourite Sports Anime: Air Gear (Not sure why i didn't include this in my Intro post, love me some Air Gear, also that OST is perfect)

    Other mentions:
    - Yowamushi Pedal (A show about cycling should not have me laughing out loud so much)
    - Kuroko's Basketball (Just found it a lot more interesting than more traditional sports anime such as Slam Dunk!)

I just finished watching the series Hajime No Ippo and Baki the Grappler, both are martial arts tournament animes Boxing and Grappling. I'm planning to finish Slamdunk next. I've also downloaded this Anime about baseball, titled ONE OUTS and I'm planning to watch it after Slamdunk.
